I need some advice on gears for my taco. 2017 OR. Will be running 35’s. Truck will be long travel +4.5. What gears should I run? Thinking 4.88 but a few people have said 4.88’s with 33’s is still too tall?

Hoping to hear from people here that have already re-geared their 3rd gens.

    TIA

    http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

You can use that link to enter in all your truck information, both stock and with 4.88's and 33 or 35" tires and it will show you speed at certain rpm's, RPM at certain speeds, final drive ratio, etc.

That information should help you make a decision based on your intended use and driving habits.

3rd gens only have a 4.88 and 5.29 aftermarket option currently available. So sticking with 33's 4.88s are you're best bet. If you intend on running 35's I would run the 5.29s.

I'm running 4.88s, previously with 285/75/17s and now with 315/70/17s.

How does your truck drive with the current setup? If im not mistaken your tire size is pretty close to a 35' tire.

35's and 4.88's are perfect. I am running them and have 600 pounds of armor.

I like it around town, but knowing how these trucks get driven in the desert the 5.29s would be a better option IMHO. I ran 4.88s in my last truck too, and again wished there was a 5.29 option available.

I'm not quite that heavy since I run as much aluminum as possible on my truck (Front bumper, Bed Rack and Skids), but for a desert truck 5.29s would be a better option.

Thanks for all the responses fellas. Still waiting on shocks and few things to complete my kit so hopefully between now and then some other people with 5.29s can chime in but I'm definitely leaning towards the 5.29s.

I run 4.88’s and 37’s on mine. Seems okay. I thought 35’s and 4.88’s was a little low. At least daily driving.

5.29’s weren’t out when I did mine. But I’d probably still go 4.88. Mines also an auto.
