I did take a few pics of insects other than the butterflies. The moth was the toughest one to capture.

Was playing with a different lens today, and I'm pretty sure it's front focusing a bunch. I ordered up the $5.50 calibration kit from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/DSLRKIT-Focus-Calibration-Alignment-Folding/dp/B012F8G1DO), so we'll see if I can get by on the cheap. There are some pricey options out there ($67-$125); while I get the benefits of those, I'm no professional so I'm not willing to drop that kind of coin.

I also ran across this DIY option, named GhettoCAL  : http://www.parallax-effect.ca/2013/...ol-for-micro-adjustment-enabled-dslr-cameras/

Moose sighting today out by Rollinsville on Moffat Road. I recently had been forgetting my Nikon at home and happened to remember today, on top of that I tossed the 55-200mm lense on.
The last one was one of my favs because you can see the eye so well, but there's a weird artifact on his side. Almost looks like the shot picked up some snow falling since it doesn't appear in any other photo and the lens is clean.

I can't remember the last time I came across a praying mantis... I recently found this one in one of my lavender bushes:

Here's a few photos from last month's trip to Hawaii. I got a pretty good crop of shots. I'm also working on redoing my website to be focused on landscape photography and will hopefully get a blog up and running. Hope to have this up by the end of the month, along with galleries, a store, etc.

    Just Wow!

I would take me forever to get the shutter speed figured out to get that water effect.

It's really not that hard. The hardest part is to get the swell/wave timing down. Because in order to get the water flowing, a wave has to crash over the rocks, but at the same time be a low swell so the "waterfalls" aren't swallowed up by the swell. I was usually there 30 minutes or so early just to watch the patterns of the waves/swells. During that time, I also try to just count about how many seconds the important movement is and use that as a guide. Adjust the ISO up a bit if I need less time. Lots of scouting/pre-visualization on these shots.

For example, the first shot those waterfalls were only created about once every 10-15 minutes. So I had to be ready when it happened or else the sun would be too far up and not get the sunburst.

Also, I have a video from one of the spots that shows the wave/swell action. Once I get my website/blog going I plan on doing a blog post about it and including video. I'll try to remember to come back and link to it once it's up.

I only have a few videos, I really wish I had more but I was obviously focused on other things....had to make sure I got the still I wanted before taking any video.

Ouch... it's been a year for this thread. Sadly, I put fishing ahead of photography this year. I just broke out the camera last weekend. I felt rusty.

From the top of Red Cone last weekend:

And I found this one building webs in the backyard:

The PSA thread about bringing your pets in due to the cold prompted me to post a few pics I took yesterday...

They have a dog door, so they can go out and enjoy the snow as much or as little as they want to. These storms didn't slow them down at all.

We haven't had late starts in 2 years, and then for this "storm" we have 2 in 2 days for my kids? It's not that bad people!
