Fly Fishing BS thread

The thing is very tempting. It's a used rod and he wants to throw in the reel for another $50. I just don't see the rod and reel being worth $200. I've never use a Sage fly rod.

 

Yeah so they're both older models for sure but both great brands that should last so 200 bucks isn't too bad. Do you know if he has the paperwork for warranty on the Sage rod? Rods carry a lifetime warranty, supposed to be for original owners so some people will save the card, leave it blank and transfer with a sale. Reel has backing and line on it as well?

 

Sage hasn’t made the DS model for a number of years, if I remember correctly it’s was their entry level rod and retailed for right around $200. I have the mid arbor Battenkill in an 8wt and it’s a good workhorse reel. If you could get both for $150 pull the trigger, but I think $200 for the rod is too much.

 

This is the conclusion I came to after doing a bit of searching as well. I just wasn't sure if maybe this was some version that is highly sought after.

I'm leaning towards capping my offer at $150 for both too.

 

I do like the Dragontail flies. The quality is pretty good for a mass produced fly. And the barbless hook is great!

I know I'm going to get more rods and reels. In the last year I've given away 2, 5 wt rigs to peeps that want to learn to fly fish.

Oddly enough, I've never used any SA line even though the stuff is local.
