That's a good looking set up. What's the weight on the camper? The wife and I are looking at this rig.... https://www.jayco.com/products/travel-trailers/2019-jay-flight-slx-8/232rb/

It is a little over 3700 dry. It towed good. Get a good WD hitch as I bucked 20 mph headwinds all day today. Trailer stayed right in line. I’m afraid to check gas mileage though. If I got 10 mpg I will be surprised.

I've read boat trailers are supposed to be balanced so that about 5-6% of the trailer/boat weight is on the tongue whereas it's 7-10% for other types of trailers. Not sure why the difference. Can anyone explain?

I think it has to do with the weight distribution of a boat. The heaviest parts (engines and fuel tanks) are at the back, so you're going to have lower tongue weights. But obviously you still need tongue weight to keep the trailer controllable, so 5-6% is basically a compromise.

also the axles are much farther back on a boat trailer since they are so tail heavy, this means less hitch weight is required to maintain stability. its weight behind the axle that triggers oscillations

It's still 10-15% for most brands.

With a full tank of fuel mine is 10%, but if I took the fuel out and trailered it dry, I'd be heavier on the tongue and probably closer to 12-13%

This is how all trailers overseas brake systems work. So much better than having to run power to the trailer from the truck just to apply brakes

Where mine's an outboard it's closer to 7%, but I have a pair of spare fuel cans that I fill up and toss in the bow and that brings it up closer to 10%

As long as it's in good condition. If it's not they're a nightmare to tow.

Noob at towing. I recently bought a 2008 Starcraft pop up and have towed to Sequoia and Big Bear. Using a prodigy brake controller.

I love the popup due to size and how I can park it in my driveway(behind the fence) and its right under the dividing wall. Id hate it to be an eye sore for my neighbor.

BUT. I'll probably eventually upgrade to something bigger once the kids grow older. I like what you guys tow
