He (she?) was a cute little buggar. Never begged for food, just went about climbing the tree, cutting down pinecones, then gathering them to eat.

    Did that on Saturday eve.

    Chain of events:
    splitting wood for kindling.
    axe 'bounced', hit my knee.
looks at pants, now with large cut in them.
Get pissed new pants were ruined.
Realizes 'hmm. I wonder how far that goes? Did it cut me too?'
Rolls up pant leg. Yup, cut me too, now bleeding. And its on my pants... dammit.
Grabs closest -mostly sterile- thing, toilet paper. Wads and applies pressure.
Thinks 'do I drive over to camp host and have them all for the Ranger (Kyle, whom I know personally).
Drive to Visitor Center (3/4 mile) and have them call Kyle?
or... it cant be that bad, just bandage it.
TP now soaked thru. Drive to VC and call Kyle.
Kyle shows up. Laughs with me. Gives me stuff to clean and treat it so he doesn't have to write up a report.
Realizes that Im supposed to pick up Husband and friend at trailhead in about 5 minutes who were out hiking.
Drive to TH, tell above story to Husband and friend.
Debate, leave now to ER (30 minute drive, no telling how long a wait on a Saturday eve) OR go home tomorrow as planned, drop off teardrop camper at home, then drive to ER thats close to home?

Yup, bandage up, seal with duct tape, have a whisky, continue with campfire and general merriment as planned.

At ER, doc scolded me for not getting in sooner... whatever. From entry to exit it was only 2 hours. Not bad.
Rx for antibiotics (due to prolonged putting off treatment... again... whatever).
Sit around on Monday pretending to be lame, get husband to do chores and bring me any/everything I need. He catches on real quick that Im not that hurt. and my fun ends.

7-10 days with 3 stitches. Neighbor is trauma nurse. Think I'll just have her look at it and pull them...

I had the skin glue with me. But I knew that if I applied it then waited to go to ER 16+ hours later, I’d have been in for more than two hours and three stitches.
