Just purchased a Klipsch 12" 400 watt subwoofer . I had a Onkyo 230 watt sub and is nowhere as powerful as my new 12" Klipsch

What my question is I've got the volume set just under 1/4 volume and Gain at or about the same . My old Onkyo had both setting just above half for what the Klipsch is putting out now

I live in a Townhouse with wood floors and vaulted ceilings and trying to be respectful of my neighbor . What can I do to not vibrate the walls ?? , the New sub is ported and the port faces the rear about 12" away from the wall

    :D

I talked to a Velodyne Engineer on AVS before I purchased my sub in part due to lots of wood, glass and vaulted ceilings. Not worried about neighbors out here in the woods, but primary concern was extending the low end for music. Only occasional need or want LFE. He recommended mine to me for the different modes available, and the crossover settings were in line with my Denon Amp.

A little magic pixie dust and couple 25 lb. bags of lead shot for vibration isolation for the towers and perfect setup.

Chuck does yours have any other modes or options available to it? Or maybe through your amp? Good on you for caring about the neighbor.

only adjustments I can do on the subwoofer itself is ......

Low pass control (cross over) set at 90Hz currently

Volume control set at 1/4 volume

Phase switch 0/180 ..... Set at 180 currently

I'm going to try and dial it in tomorrow and yes I do care about my neighbors !!

Turn down the gain on the sub.

Raise the sub off the floor with a small table or something with rubber in between the table and floor.

Maybe move the sub into a corner and keep it 12"-16" away from the way angled at the corner?

This is the Subwoofer I've got , think it's to big and heavy for a table . Weighs 33lbs and is 16"x14"

    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/klipsc...wered-subwoofer-black/6228076.p?skuId=6228076

It is right now positioned 14" from the wall

The gain is set at 90hz and matches my 7.1 speakers output

yea that's a good intro sub. not too heavy for a table. maybe make a stand out of 2x4 and ply. put some rubber between sub and stand and on the bottom of the stand legs, maybe a little foam against the wall behind where the port faces.

I have that sub. It's fairly well dampened from the floor already and, being front firing, the wood floors aren't really playing havoc on the sound itself.

Your concerns center around how much the moving air from the sub shakes the walls/ceiling. Short of turning down the gain or cutting off some of the lowest end frequencies, there isn't really much you can do to the sub itself, since it can't control the air once it's left the cone.

What you'd be looking at is treatment to the room itself - particularly the concerning surfaces - that can cut down on vibrations/noise transference. You could put some acoustic panels on the ceiling (some look pretty cool before you knock this idea!) or put some noise absorbing curtains on the windows to help reduce the amount of extra sound bouncing around in there. It'll improve the sound of your system to boot. I think beyond that, you start getting in to stuff like doubling up on the drywall thickness and adding some mass-loaded vinyl for good measure.

Good luck, though, and you're certainly a more courteous neighbor than I've ever lived next to!

We have too much in common ;).

Polk RTi12 front towers, CSi5 center, R50 (?) rear towers here.

I have carpet over concrete in that room, so no floor vibrations to be concerned with.

Do you live in a end unit? Then move it to the none neighbor wall. If not turn down the gain/vol. Also use the SW in neighbor friendly hours e.g., from 10 AM to 8 PM.

Heres the room , as you can see my ceiling is 16' high and the wall with the picture is the wall I share with my neighbor

Put carpet ~10’x10’ in front of the speakers. It will cut down on refraction & standing waves. It will also save the floors some. If you really want to go the extra mile, get some achoustic tiles for the back wall(s). Note some of this is not spouse friendly.

Low pass should be set at LFE, and u let the avr crossover do it's job.
Gain should start at about halfway setting, then run your avr setup process with the mic.... Fine tune from there

33lbs isn't that bad... My center weighs 50lbs, and my subs are 80lbs each.
And they are nothing compared to the real beasts out there...
Look at the pb16 ultra, or some of the jtr captivators
