On one hand, I agree. On the other, commitment. To your teammates, to your team, and to finishing strong. Never too early to learn those qualities.

Can you guys recommend a place to camp near San Francisco? Remote or developed campground is fine. Just need a spot for base camp then visit the city with the wife and kid.

    Thanks.

In SF or near by cities? I know of Lake Del Valle in Livermore or Mt Diablo in Concord.

For me, camping and wheeling usually means my stock of ammo depletes...

For those of you like me, Big5 has 20% off ammo today and tomorrow!

Samuel P Taylor SP. that's the best you can get for a base camp close to the city. Pantoll camp in Tamapais SP is awesome too. Kirby Cove or Millennium camp in the GGNRA/Marin headlands is nice, but no fires. Angel island is beautiful, but ferry ride is only way on/off (no cars/trucks). China Camp SP is probably the closest drive time wise, and still nice. Has killer MTB trails too if you're into that.

Or down the coast on highway 1, Butano SP has nice redwood campgrounds, Costonoa is a cool KOA, or further down into Santa Cruz mountains, maybe about 1:15 from the city (depending on traffic).

    What time of year?

I usually have no problem just cruising out with no res. I'm 15 mins away though so no pressure if I get skunked.

A bunch of the acreage there was burned a few weeks ago. That may have something to do with the sites availability?

I think part of it is it's a damn nice place. And it's close to a lot of stuff. One of these days I'll get a spot. Thinking I might hit bullfrog Pond up at Anderson redwoods. Looks like fun.

Every time I try, I get skunked. I was shocked a couple weekends ago Wright's beach had open sites. Of course I wasn't camping that weekend.
