Your hoses are 3/8", so whatever they offer to work with that.

Perfectly normal. Its from short drives during winter. My 2012 does the same. Here's a short video about it.

    Good morning,

I don't see anyone using the breather type with the filter on top. Is there a reason why you would or wouldn't use the filter?

Some have a breather and some don't. What does it do?

When used in line with the vacuum routing, you do not want a breather on it. That would be a source of a vacuum leak.

Those with a breather, such as myself, have completely changed the vacuum routing to prevent a vacuum leak.

    "Taken from his build thread.

Took just a few during our weekend's modding.

These hydrographic covered valve covers look simply stunning.

We modified the PCV ports so that they would accept 3/8" NPT to -10 AN fittings, for the catch can rerouting.

Then came can installation and custom bracket.

Here is how we did it to his."

I guess I don't understand. It looks like you don't have Positive Crankcase Ventilation. Where is the return line to the intake?

There isn't one. The blow by from the ring gaps alone is enough to cause a pressure, which is then evacuated through each valve cover, into the catch can.

And then vented to atmosphere? So you're relying on the positive pressure in the crankcase to push vapors out, instead of vacuum created in the throttle body/intake to suck it through?

I just read through this thread, some good information, impressed with the described catch cans.

I would like to add why I think a catch can is beneficial to performance:

With the proliferation of port and direct injection; the design of intake manifolds no longer considers carrying a wet charge. This provides great freedom in the shapes of the intake, designed to only carry air, not fuel and air. In simple terms, if you were to add a fuel injector near the throttle body, and run the engine, you would find that one or two cylinders will receive the majority of this fuel, and one or two will likely see drastically less fuel. Fuel has greater mass than air, and is less inclined to turn corners, so some fuel will fall out of the air (impinging on intake walls) and be picked up or pushed along a different path; unless the intake is actually designed to evenly distribute a wet charge.

Oil has a very low octane, greatly promoting detonation. In very small doses, this has very small impact. Those reporting CC content here, are typically pretty small amounts when divided to per mile, and minute per combustion cycle.

But consider that most engines with knock retard systems, will attempt to take full advantage of available octane for given operating conditions. Commonly accomplished by regularly and slowly increasing timing advance, until it detects slight pinging, then will back off timing slightly for a while, before advancing again. With this system in place, you can get more power and better fuel economy by running premium fuel, but is still safe to run regular gas also. Greatly appreciated!

Except: the typical knock retard system (not all), does not adjust spark to individual cylinders, it retards all equally.

So consider that any oil being fed to the intake is not being evenly divided amongst all cylinders, but is consumed by one or two; having greater impact on ping resistance (octane) than if it were evenly distributed, giving a little oil greater influence. And if that cylinder then dictates maximum timing advance to all cylinders; it is unfairly and needlessly robbing otherwise available performance from the rest of the engine cylinders, just to protect one or two. I do propose that this benefit is not likely measurable in MPG, but possibly is in miles per tank.

For intakes designed for throttle body injection or carburetors, the oil is distributed amongst all cylinders more evenly, lessening the overall impact, but this is not us.

I think the reason why so few cars come with catch cans has much to do with overall cost and how the benefit increases with age of motor, after warranty ends:
    - Catch cans become more beneficial as the engine wears and generates more blow-by, thus more oil-saturated air being expelled, more oil to catch. Meaning lesser benefit to a young engine (under warranty)
    - If you are not going to empty your catch can at least every oil change, and/or not change your oil often; best to run without a CC. If a catch can is allowed to become 3/4 full or more, then a quick turn or hard acceleration could feed the intake a solid squirt of oil from sloshing in the can. This volume of oil would have an immediate and sizable impact to cause potentially damaging detonation. I think that with the proliferation of car owners who do not properly maintain their engines; that catch cans may well be considered a liability in the eyes of car manufacturers.
    - If you care enough about your engine to add a catch can, then you likely care enough to maintain it.

Kind of winded, but hope some will appreciate.
