Thanks! So when I take it in to have the ECU flashed my new calibration ID should be 896630A6100 and that will have included the TSB fix?

Got it done finally! My 5k maintenance came up and asked the dealership to complete the TSB since I was experiencing the known symptoms. Took about 3 hours. Drove straight to work down the street and noticed that the truck would hold gear slightly better than before. Light to light traffic before was terrible. The truck would up-shift so far that once I had to maintain or gain slight speed, it would have to down shift causing a surge of unneeded power. Now it doesn't do that.

Yes. Be sure to have them change anything else you want changed like the number of times the lane change blinkers blink, seat belt chimes, etc.... while they have the harness hooked up.

I have been thinking about this learning thing, and I want to believe those of you who say that everything gets better between 2k-10k miles. However, I bought my truck used with 11k miles and the stumble was definitely there. This was pre TSB, but shouldn't it have been better than wonky crap regardless? It had a previous owner. Am I to think that the previous owner didn't drive very well? I had a really good day with my truck, and got a very surprising 21.6mpg with mixed city/40-50mph stretches, but it still had weird shift moments.

The ‘learning’ feature is continuous and ongoing. It isn’t a “one time event” that sets a certain group of parameters in stone.

How the previous owners drove the truck has zero effect on how it drives today, other than during the first short while as the truck learns your habits.

Well, after today, I feel very hopeful. It behaved for the most part and I can't complain about that mpg!

Well finally got mine done and gotta say I'm not impressed so far.

Maybe it was the fact it took 2.5 hrs, and as soon as I got it back, winds started whipping and rain was dumping.

On the highway it was hunting like crazy. Basically what everyone says theirs does. Mine would do it a little on inclines, but never that bad. I'm hoping it's because it's the TSB working out the kinks, and not a permanent thing. I know it's kinda weather related, but damn, I was hoping the TSB would have fixed that

I just had this done yesterday at my local dealer here in northeastern NJ. The service person that I worked with wasn't surprised that I was having shifting issues with my Tacoma, apparently a lot of people come in with the same complaint. What I found interesting is that I had to give him the TSB number because he said there wasn't a fix for it. Perhaps he was new or didn't have a clue, but they did end up applying the new version. It took about 90 minutes total and I definitely see an improvement, now I just hope that it doesn't revert back as others noticed.

Well I've been driving in S mode since Wednesday to prevent the learning process. Still happy with the TSB update for this truck (TSD 0058-18), but it could still be better.

Based on what information are you doing this, and what final goal does it achieve?

    Honest question.

For me, "D" is terrible in wind at highway speeds. S5 is better.

I'm really digging S5 60mph and below. When I tried it 65-75 it was killing my MPG.

S6 at 65-75 would not go into 6th

That's where I'm at too. Over 60 and mpg suffers in S5. S6 isn't too bad when going faster than that.

I'll have to mess around with s6 a little more. I was on my way to a football game with a buddy, so I couldn't focus all of my attention on it

It'll go to 6 eventually but it holds 5 longer that you'd expect. Which is nice.

Keep in mind it goes both ways. In D the truck shifts too much for some. In S6 it doesn't hit 6th gear for some. Me personally and what I have experienced, I would rather run 300 RPM too high in a gear as oppossed to 300 to low. For me in my terrain and typical wind speeds, there is no appreciable difference in MPG between S5 and 6th in D.

Keep tinkering with it though, maybe try D and ECT, or S6 and ECT. Everybody drives differently and is in a different environment so what may work for one might not work for someone else.
