If it were me, I would be avoiding BBP like the plaque.

Ouch. I have a 2018 BBP. I'm going to have to watch it. I bought some extended warranty that warranties everything for 8 years, so if it shows up, it should by that time.

What year is your truck? Glad you have the warranty. I'm getting a 2nd transmission now on my 06 truck. Do you know if the 19's will be better? (I'm a mom, go easy here) Love my Tacoma! I'm thinking of getting another after this.

if you do the required regular maintainence on the transmission>changing out the transmission fluid at required intervals>every 30k miles they should last the life and then some of the truck. Toyota automatic transmissions are very durable and would have to be a lot of abusing them to need a replacement.

My truck is a year old now with just about 17.5k miles on it. I’ll have to keep a close eye on this too. I also purchased an extended warranty so if an issue does arise, I’m sure I’ll be covered and it’ll be OK. Hopefully...

So now I have a real conflict... I just bought a 2018 BBP and want to have clear bra installed on forward facing surfaces + ceramic coating on the rest of the truck. BUT if i do this, it might protect the paint for the duration of the warranty period and not start fading until AFTER the warranty is up. And it costs $$$$ to have this done..

I've got a 17 BBP that sat in the sun at the dealer for a year before I bought it new, and the paint looks perfect to me. Also I know it's lazy as hell but I've got a monthly membership to a local auto car wash and have never had any issues with my paint. I've been going there for a few years now. I keep my truck waxed monthly so maybe that has something to do with it?

I have only seen DC's with this problem? Could this mean that this is only a Mexico built problem? You can bet your but Toyota knows why, when, and where!
Mine looks fine, but it still worries me.

My 18 DCSB TRD OR 6MT BBP was built in Texas (part of the reason I bought it). Any truck with a VIN starting with 5FT was built in Texas. Any with a VIN starting with 3MT was built in Mexico.

Toyota dealers seem to be agreeing to fix this when people take them in --like I said , I bet they know where, when and why this happened.
Each picture I have seen on this website all look like the same problem on each of the different trucks.

Dude...this is not the thread I want to find. I just bought a new BBP 9/1. Paint looks amazing at the moment but I seriously hope this does not happen to my truck!

Now this has me checking out the sealant/wax products linked above!

This has nothing to do with the care of the paint I wash my car on a regular basis this is just a problem from the factory they measured my paint thickness at the dealer and some spots were a lot lower than others that means it was painted in correctly

Just checked the VIN (3TM)...f'n Mexico! Again, no signs of an issue at this time. I just wet over the entire truck with clay and it looks flawless. Fingers crossed!

Cheap paint and poor quality control by Toyota. Look at all the problems with MGM color matching. Also the paint is thin like eggshells

That was pure speculation on my part, based on zero facts. So I wouldn't stress too much about where it was made. Moreover, I have not seen a single report of 2018 BBP fading, though that may be because they aren't old enough yet. If you are really concerned, go to a high end detailing shop where they have a device to measure paint thickness and get measurements all over the truck. That might give some indication, though no paint is perfectly consistent, even factory paint.

Actually eggshells are a whole lot thicker than our paint! We could only wish the paint was that thick!

A little something every chance we get.
Wow. My 2007 is Mexico built, and I see them all the time with clearcoat fail, just like mine. Sad, Toyota.
