AC Blower Motor Recall on Tacoma’s

This is interesting, because I just bought this truck a few months ago with 11k miles, and the blower just went out this week! Will it go out again, or have they figured it out with the new replacement?

 

Time will only tell. In my case it's been documented twice so if anything happens out of warranty after 36K miles I have a claim for it to be replaced again.

So hopefully, if they install the new upgraded part then you won't have any issues. Check to make sure you didn't get the old part number installed. The first time they fixed it for me they had the part on the shelf. This time around it was special ordered.

 

The part is back ordered two months. I am pretty sure it will be the new one if I have to wait that long.

 

Yup, likely...but I would doublecheck when you get it done. Hopefully they've thrown away the old product.

I also hope your a/c still works in the meantime. Mine always worked but had a slight noise coming out of it. The first time my wife thought I was just hearing things.

 

It is cooling, but without the blower in 95 degree 80% humidity weather, it is hot!

 

Dang. I would keep nagging them. I put my order in Aug 31st and it arrived yesterday.

 

Just dropped my truck off for 10K. SA mentioned the blower recall, I told him mine rattles when turning on and off. They'll take a look .

UPDATE: Fan was broken, part will be here in a few days.

 

Dang! I didn't know this was an issue... I called the dealership after the fan blade cracked. It happened this summer when I jumped in the truck and flipped the A/C fan up to high. Thought I had a bird or something in there!

Dealership acted like they had never seen an issue like that... Told them kind of frustrating after owning a 2006 TRD OR with 325K and nothing major wrong with it over that time. That said they fixed it and still like the truck! Not another truck I'd want at this point...

 

My truck runs great but I noticed it sounds awful. How bad is the noise for the blower motor and does it come from the engine bay? I'm going to have it looked at next time it is in.

 

Make sure you got the new one or it will go out again, apparently. Someone a few posts up posted a pic of the model number for the new one.

I called the dealer last week to set up a appointment for my annual NYS inspection. They ran my vin number and told me about the recall and said they would need to order the replacement blower. I hope it arrives before my appointment on Wednesday.

 

You get something in the mail recently?

 

Is this blower motor supposed to be fixed regardless if your blower motor is having issues or not? I just dropped off my truck and the service advisor said he thinks the blower motor has to have issues to be covered under the service campaign.

 

Could the dealer order this part free of charge and let me install it myself? Weird. I was running the blower with engine on, and soon as I turned the engine off the fan broke.

 

A Service Campaign such as this is not restricted to whether or not you have a problem with your fan. They are to replace it without question so long as your vehicle is within the parameters of the Campaign, not restricted to mileage, age, or history of ownership.

You should call Toyota USA and log a complaint with them. Your service advisor is simply wrong on this call.

 

Cut my trip short a day so I could get mine replaced today. They called me last week saying it had arrived but I was on the road heading out of town so scheduled the install for today. Hopefully they have really fixed the issue this time and I dont have to have it replaced a 3rd time.

So is it the blower motor when I hear sort of a squeal when I give it gas every now and then, or is it the fuel pump issue? I need to take that list and make them give me all the tsbs I've got coming.
