I finally got a chance to do this mod today. The hardest part was removing the lower dash panel and unplugging the harnesses from the fuse box. As stated in the OP, reassembly was quick and it now works like a charm.

Now if we can only make the other DC plug always on too...

That’s a great and useful mod, good job! I’d warn others that it should not be used for a high amp circuit (such as to power a high power radio transmitter, power converter, etc.). Here’s a always on low amp 12v source in the overhead cluster useful for powering GoPros, etc., along with a switched one I use for my dash cam:

The thing that stops me from doing this mod is Electricity DOES NOT like me. Every time I try to mess with anything electric it usually ends up badly and me calling an electrician!

Just got doing this mod! Hardest part was taking out the fuse box. Putting it back it was 2x faster.
    BE WARNED!!!
Make sure you solder the correct points!
I wasnt paying attention and accidentally did the A/C always on mod lmao. Had to tear everything back apart and correct it.

Is there a mod that catches the cigarette lighter plug on the dash as well ?

    Another thing I noticed.

My Tacoma has 2 additional USB ports in the rear console for use by rear seat passengers. The ports were likely a dealer or distributor add on and come with a blue LED light.

I did this mod, and those two ports are now always on as well. The blue light is always on. I am trying to think of a practical way to measure the overall amperage draw of that blue LED, but it seems like a non issue.

LEDs generally have such a low draw that I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just go for a drive once a month and your battery should be good.

My advice is worth as much as you paid for it.

While I see the conveniences of having the outlet always hot, not sure I would want to go to this extent, (especially soldering in your fuse box) to accomplish it. It would most likely give Toyota a good excuse to deny any warranty claims if your truck ever developed an electrical issue. But to each their own of course.

Very simple mod. As long as you’ve had any sort of basic soldering experience this is fairly simple

Good morning everyone I am new to the Tacoma world and I was wondering if anybody did this mod for the cigarette lighter power port on the dashboard? If anyone has can you please let me know. I need to plug in an emergency light when I drive onto a construction site and I don't want to leave the truck running constantly.
