Show us your truck bed sleeping platform/drawer/storage systems

I have not used the exact one however I installed Total chaos version and I love them. For one; The act great as bed stifferners, two the allow you multiple tie down points for ratchets either with the tailgate on or off plus the cab instal a CB antennae on them..

 

Can the metal pull out support the 250lbs?

 

Here’s some progress on my new drawer set up. I have the “kitchen” drawer built and ready for sanding/paint. Because of the griddle I wanted to use, the drawer had to be a certain size. I built it first and will build the other to fit what opening is left. I originally was going to use a doubled up center vert but decided to go with one after I upgraded wood for the verticals that have the bearings. Poplar wood was truer and more square off the shelf. And it’s plenty sturdy for just one vert. So now my drawers are less then an inch difference in width. Gives my OCD fits. I wanted to be able to swap drawers if I needed to. Can’t do that now. Oh well. Still will work great.

I used pronged tee nuts so I didn’t have to use washers/nuts on the outside. Gave me a lot more clearance. They are sturdy!


Got the outside and back vert’s on:


Measuring our for the center vert. Put the kitchen drawer in to get the correct spacing. She glides like a dream!

Hope to get it all done today/tomorrow and start prepping/painting if the weather holds up.



Edit: looking for suggestions on some flush mount latches for the drawers. I’d like to have them latch when closed so things stay more secure and don’t slide open if I’m parked on a slight incline and open the tailgate. I only have about 3/8” clearance when the tailgate is shut. So it’ll need to be flush mount.

 

I've been looking for a solution for that very same griddle! I'm keen to see how the rest of your build develops.
As far as fasteners, perhaps a slide-bolt latch or draw latch for a door, window, or cabinet.

 

I used to have the Everest campstove. I was less than impressed with using it. Great stove. But any amount of wind messes with it. Plus you have to have pots and pans. The griddle it came with was terrible. Grease everywhere and it warped like crazy. This griddle will hopefully fix all that. Looking forward to testing it out!

Finished up the second drawer tonight. They are just 7/8” different in width... a little frustrating. Life goes on.



I guess the middle vertical moved slightly as I was screwing it down. The kitchen drawer gets hung up about 3/4” in. So I’ll have to get after the middle vertical with a sander tomorrow.



Still don’t have the bearings on the middle vertical in this last pic. I need to get shorter bolts tomorrow and then I can give it a real test run.

Tomorrow I should have it all done and ready to start painting! Very happy with how it is turning out so far.

 

What are you using as a drawer stop?

 

I’m going to use some extra tee nuts I have at the back of the drawers and just use bolts. I’ll put a block of wood on the frame side. That way I can just pull out the bolt to remove the drawers.

Made more progress. Had family events going on this weekend that kept me from getting closer to wrapping this up. But it was still productive.

I got the middle bolts cut down and installed. Put the drawers in and made some final adjustments before securing the top crossmembers. Drawers glide well. The kitchen drawer is snug. I’m afraid the anti friction tape may make it get hung up. We’ll see.



Need to put one more cross member in the front but I ran out of wood. I put a level across the wheel wells and this thing sits right at 1/4” below it. I will probably get some 1/4” plywood and cut strips to go across so the top platform won’t droop. Should get part done tomorrow and hopefully paint on Tuesday.

 

Finished construction of the whole set up. Gonna let it all set up overnight and then sand and paint tomorrow! My recessed paddle latches come in tomorrow. Will try to install them then or Thursday.

 

Here is an updated look at my sleeping platform. Since my last post I've stained it and I modified my desk to fit over my 4 inch memory foam pad a little better. This thing has been awesome this summer on many trips I've done with it and also elk hunting earlier this month. I also built a matching back seat dog platform and deleted the rear seats. I'm actually gearing up to sell my truck because I'm in need of a full four door but I think I'm going to be getting an F-150 so I wont be able to take the platform with me!

3/4 length drawer, undecided on what I'll use the front section for - either more permanent storage space or a water tank is what I'm thinking for now.

For guys that are offroading with their setups, how'd you secure it to the bed? I tried some turnbuckles to the tie points - and the top was just friction fit with some corner braces- I shook the thing apart on a pretty moderate trail. It's since been bolted through the bed and shouldn't move at all.

 

@lukester78 sorry i do not. I actually picked it up from fred meyers but i love it. The two USB support up to 5.2 Amps so they charge nice and fast and the male plug in is flat and angled so the cover for the outlet doesn't put a torque on it. It's about 6 feet long too so its nice when im sleeping in there to be able to have that mobility.

 

for those of you using a sleeping pad/packable sleeping pad, link to what you are using to cover the whole 6x4 foot platform surface. I like the idea of packing away the padding in my drawer system when i am not using it.

 

I use a couple cheap yoga mats from Daison. They don't cover the entire area but help protect it from scuffs and scratches.
