    I have found some pictures and wright-ups from Gen.1 2.7L and Gen.2 V6.
But did not see wright up for Gen.2 2.7L.

Can't locate hole that I can install Kat's cartridge heater. Printed out picks from other wright ups but that did not help.

Is it on drive or passenger side?
Do you have pics that shows location on 2.7L Gen.2?

One wright-up stated that 2.7L have to drain coolant in order to install it (Unlike V6, does not require draining coolant)

Heater was waiting for a year to be installed and finally I decided to change coolant..... now can't find hole.

    Please help, that you.

btw. i have Kat's 11813 Engine Heater Cartridge

Going to to my manual TM right now and after that will have to do coolant.
Anybody has any idea where that hole is?

Thank you, I don't know what I was thinking. My plug does not have any threads, that should have been red flag because I read that coolant has to be drained for plug to be installed. And it has to be a way to seal frost plug hole for it to work.
So i guess i will try to find one locally and if don't find one I will have to refill the coolant.

    Thank you for your help.

I was not able to find heater locally, refilled coolant. Only 6 quarts came out so 3 qt staid in the system.
So I will have to do it again and maybe when i remove freeze plug rest of the coolant will come out.

My local dealer charger $25 per gallon....

so another $75 in coolant price if I going to do it.

QUESTION: This plug does not have any kind of threads as well, just rubber O-ring. HOW secure this plug, how often does it leak?
Does that part of the engine does not have pressure that would push this plug out?

    Thank you

    Ok, so here is a picture of a typical block heater;

Notice the bolt in the middle, it runs through to a plate that is sitting up against a couple of arms that are angled outward.
When you tighten that bolt, the plate pulls those arms in, and they hook against the inside edge of the block, thus holding it in place.

I bought almost that exact block heater from Toyota for 90 bucks. I just am not sure which freeze plug to replace with the heater. There is 4 on the driver side and the instructions say the second one but my question is,are they going from the radiator to the driver seat or other way around. The parts guy I spoke with at Toyota confirmed it was goes on the driver side for my truck. I hope it is from the driver's seat because that would be the easiest to remove and replace.

My truck is currently jacked up waiting for me to figure this out luckily I have not drained the coolant yet. Fast responses are appreciated

I did end up installing the freeze plug into 1997 2.7L truck. It was not worth the amount of time and energy I had to put into it. My advice is either put a oil pan warmer on or get a freeze plug remover. I was unable to remove the freeze plug that ended up falling into the engine block. So I decided to hillbilly it a little and pushed it to the side and installed the block heater.(not super happy about that)
