I found a pair of Moog ball joints on EBay (of course) for $30 (!). Good quality, and went pretty smoothly, bought a press kit for $70. Took most of a day to do both as I had to get a new caliper for one side which had a stuck piston.
    Saved a bundle.

How difficult was it? Don't need it but I dread the day they need replacement

Not really difficult just a ball buster getting the adapters to line up when your pressing them in and out. Took a LOT of pressure to pop them out. Bought my own press kit as Advance auto never seemed to have the big kit for loan and I'm sure there would be stuff missing anyway.
