Yes you should’ve purchased a manual. Even though it can be quirky (the AT is obviously much worse), but at least you can prove to yourself you can multitask by using a clutch. Even my kids (yes, one is a female) can drive a clutch very well and love it.

Either way, unless I’m handicapped (and even then I’ll just use to broomsticks cut up to work the pedals) I will never purchase an auto Tacoma again.

Whatever you do, do not buy a Pro or a Calvary Blue (hideous) one just to get a MT. Get the color you want and you don’t need a Pro to get it for sure.

The discussion is I wish I got a manual, not is the manual better than the AT. Notice, I haven’t breathed a word about the AT...lol.

You’ve got to be kidding. Look at what the title says and what you just said.

    I bought auto...?
Should I trade in for manual...?

Hmmm... That definitely shows a bit of question by the OP whether he made the right decision. Look at my post... I express flaws in both transmissions. The auto (which I have owned) is more widely purchased has much and definitely has higher numbers of complaints i.e. hard shifts, gear hunting etc.

Either way, MT is superior in different ways in my opinion. Have a good one and make sure and fully think about what you are saying first before trying to start an argument that doesn’t exist.

When asked why he wanted a manual the OP answered he wanted a more sporty experience. Your opinion of if the manual is better or worse is not relevant to the discussion.

Does it create a more sporty experience for you? Your opinion on that would be relevant. That’s all I meant.

The MT doesn't really make it more sporty IMO. It does make it more involving and enjoyable.
The MT certainly makes it more difficult to text, eat donuts and drink coffee while getting a bj. But how often does anyone have the perfect morning commute?

I have a MT DCSB TRD Sport Quicksand and I have to have reconstructive surgery on my clutch ankle this fall. I’m debating for trading in for an automatic but all the reviews about how sluggish they are has me thinking I’ll just buy a beater for a few months and keep the manual. It would be nice to get a 6ft bed though!

The auto is not that bad as painted here. lol. Then again it all depends on your uses and terrain I guess. Test drive it and see if it suits your needs.

If you buy the beater, you may be able to sell it after you recover and not be out much in cost. Or hell, maybe even make a profit.

So the impression I get, not only from this thread but just opinions around the forum I guess is that whatever this OVTune is (I haven't looked into it) makes a big difference in the auto.

Seeing as @Rocinante75 has been the only one to chime in as someone who had an auto and didn't like it, but then the tune changed everything, it sounds like the OP should definitely give it a shot. I'm super curious to hear his thoughts as that would make me way more confident in going with the auto.

It really restored my faith in the truck. Drives like it should. No gear hunting. Shifts when it should. New version of the tune dropping any day (1.05). It’s a HUGE version. Should be a 2.0. Check out the forum thread or his facebook (OVTuned).

I don't feel the dump truck sensation, I can shift 1 thru 6 without taking my elbow off the center console. I think the truck is fun to drive and the shifter is absolute butter compared to any previous Gen Tacoma's.

When I was looking for my Tacoma, a manual was at the top of my requirements. I would have bought an SR or SR5 if I could have gotten one with a V6 4X4 6MT. It was worth paying the premium for the TRD Sport to get the transmission I wanted. I figure as much as I'm spending and as long as I'll have this thing (200k + Miles) it better damn sure be exactly what I want. It took me a little longer to find what I wanted but it was worth the wait.

I cant imagine spending almost 40 THOUSAND of my hard earned dollars on something that im on the fence about having. I know how hard I work for my money so I was patient and held out for a manual. I can confidently say that my truck is the truck I wanted.

Sounds to me like you didn't really know what you wanted when you bought your truck the first time around.

If you were really that serious about the manual you wouldn't have even considered the auto the first time around. I would continue to drive your truck for a few thousand more miles and see if you really can't live with it. If you can't then go test drive a manual and see if the experience and the huge hit to your wallet is really worth it.

There are plenty of happy auto owners out there and it appears Toyota is trying to fix the problem.
