One of the coolest things to do in Lake Tahoe is to night dive. Lie on your back and look up at the sky. Lights out. The stars and their reflection are amazing.

Been night diving more than a few times. It’s pretty cool to see the changes from day to night. Channel Islands, Monterey, and Tahoe. BVI too.

    That sounds pretty awesome!
I've only dove during the day in Tahoe. That color blue is super intense.

I think I might dive the Channel Islands this month! Take wife down for a little trip in the truck.

The folks at Truth Aquatics run some great multi-day trips out to the Channel Islands and their boat captains come with a wealth of experience in the area to get you out to some of the great spots. Plus, they have hot tubs-not always the best thing to do right after diving but a nice way to round out the day.

Good info, might do that for wife's and my xmas gifts to each other. Was just going to do a day boat later this month. Her bday came and went with her in Argentina and me here, so was going to take her down south to Disneyland (last thing she will ever expect, I HATE amusement parks, but she has never been...) and wanted to do a separate day with some dives so the trip is a little better for me

Been going on an annual charter with truth for almost as long as I've been diving and that group has been together for longer than they would like to admit. Not sure which boat has a hot tub and I've been out on all but the Condor and unless one's been added neither the Truth, Conception, or Vision has one and those were the boats we used from San Clemente to San Miguel. Has one been added or is it on the Condor catamaran which I think is mostly for whale watching day trips? Great crews and plenty of good food. I hope you have good vis and a quiet sea. If you go to Two Harbors rent a kayak and check out the caves to the south past the research station, if you go to Avalon the miniture golf course is a must(watch out for the cat that guards the 18th hole).

Take your seasick pills well in advance. If you go as far as Santa Catalina or San Clemente its not unlikely you will cruise at night on the way there. The trip down south(the islands range from SW to SE of Santa Barbara) is usually smoother than the trip back which fights the NW Pacific swell until you pass Pt Conception. San Miguel is effing cold but no where is it what I'd call warm in the northern islands, go to Santa Catalina if you or your partner can't get past the chill or don't have enough neoprene or a dry suit. I wish I had one but it's not worth 3 days a year. Temps in Catalina can rise to 70F, our trip is always around Memorial Day so it's colder than that then but pretty much a given to be at least a few degrees warmer in the southern islands.

We usually have dinner at the harbor, Brophy's, but if you have time and are willing to burn a little extra I highly reccomend The Cold Spring Tavern on the north side near the top of San Marcos Pass on Stagecoach road(hwy154), best steak I've ever had. It's housed in a genuine pony express stop building so it feels like a step back in time 150 years. From the north you leave 101 at 154 and go by Lake Cachuma before heading up the pass and from the South you leave 101 in Santa Barbara to head up the southern side on 154. It's on the "old" road so you have to leave the main route when you get close. On the way back north you can stick to 101 and pass through Buelton(Pea Soup Andersons) and Solvange(touristy but still a good food stop on the way back north).

I just found out we have some diving available here in Utah. If you needed any more of an excuse to come East a bit and play, there's always that!

I've got a couch for you to crash on any time. Live at the base of the cottonwood canyons, so have 4 ski areas in a 30 min drive. Biking all over. Bring beer, and you're in!

I live in Oakland and I dive regularly in Monterey. Actually I think I'm going for a night dive next Saturday (10/13) if anyone in this thread is interested in joining.

Diving in the Caymans under an afternoon monsoon was super cool too. Seeing all the ripples on the surface, and this super cool hissing/ringing sound was pretty unreal too. Especially when you are playing around a shipwreck.

Good to know. I’m in the sac area and have my license. I’m around 30 dives as well. Been a few years though. Would want to recertify.

I do need to get cleared by a doctor. I was in a bad roll over car accident and both lungs were punctured so I have to make sure they’re okay to breathe compressed air again.
