Well, I’ve been between building my 13 Tacoma, or buying an older desert truck for cheap just to beat on in desert season.

I’ve found a 83 Caged Pickup that i got for a pretty good deal. When it was originally built, it was built pretty solid (minus the tweakerish cab) which I’m getting used to.

It was parked two years ago because the motor was blown.

Since then the owner rebuilt the whole motor, new head, pistons, valves bigger cam, etc and well lost interest.

So I’m picking it up as a roller and will finish up the motor and drop it in.

I’m super excited to start as this should be a fun little beater. I’m trying to get it going and running within a month to enjoy it for the season, but want to also clean it up without dumping load of cash into it.

Through out this build i will leave a list of starting cost, and every upgrade from there.

Pics of the build how I’m picking it up today. Some of you have probably seen the truck before.

    Priority to get truck running
    1.Battery Relcoation with Battery
    2. High Output Alternator
    3. Electronic Ignition
    4. Tube Carb.

The 4 above steps are mandatory to make sure this thing can start and turn over. Then i will focus and upgradingthe suspension, tires, and tasteful modifications here and there.

So plans for this weekend include:

Relocating the battery to the back of the truck, eliminating unnecessary wiring, and trying to track down an ego harness.

I was gonna keep it carbureted but have all the parts need to run fuel injection minus the harness from the intake to the computer.

Tracked down some 33-10.50s that I’m gonna pick up. I would like to eventually run 35’s but the rear end has brand new 4:11’s and i rather run them this season. Then when Turboyota sells his back half I’ll buy his full size axle and drop it in. Should be a good start this weekend.

I’m getting the truck plated in AZ so it can remain street legal. How many of you have almost completely stripped out any unnecessary wiring and just kept what’s need for lights, ignition etc.

I was thinking of getting a switch pros but because of the cost i might just run an old school power block and some switches.

The dash is aluminum so i can add some switches and have plenty of room.

Then when i clean up the interior and go fiberglass dash I’ll invest in the switchpros system.
