For towing a jetski/trailer combo that weighs about 1300lbs, what gear would be appropriate for towing? Currently I have a 2008 4 cyl single cab (auto with 4 spd), I used "3" on flat and "2" in some really hilly mountain (only in short distance). Thinking of upgrading to an access cab 4cyl AT. Drove one last and liked it a lot. I also had a 2012 V6 AT DCSB a while back.

Anyone pull their spark plugs yet? Can't help but to feel like my truck is running rough from time to time. Going in for my 15 k soon wondering if anyone has either done it them selves or had Toyota do it?

Nice. I think it’s a shame they don’t offer the DC SR with a manual option, like they did with the Hilux.

I owed a 14 extended cab 4x4 4cyl 5speed before the 4dr. I've owned several since 1985. I'm all about keeping things simple, and these trucks with the 2.7 will last forever

UPS phased out manuals to increase productivity. Less time shifting gears= more packages delivered

So my 2.7 manual at 9k... with TRD wheel set rims and 265/70/16 Good years AT , 2" lift up front(PTR 13-35150) , and air dam delete get me 19MPG according to the ultra gauge. I do believe Toyota is conservative with their HP and Tq numbers. I have seen up to 190 HP and 194 TQ on the ultra gauge. IMG_20180908_100929.jpg

Well, I have owned my 2.7L, SR 5, 4x4 Tacoma since March of 2016 when I bought it new. 25, 000 km on it so far and everything is good. Used it mostly for short errands and carrying stuff, up to 1,000 pounds in the bed.
On a last year continental trip, we used my wife Honda Civic for fuel economy sake. Unfortunately, we ran into paved but under repair roads, so our fuel savings economy of 50$ costed us 80$ in undercarriage repair. This fall, we took the Tacoma for a 2,800 km roadtrip, half of it being onto curvacious roads and very hilly terrain.
We were not towing anything. I got around 11L/100 km average. Hill climbing, passing and highway ramp speeding proved excellent in the 2500 -3500 RPM , sometimes 4000, range.
I had considered trading in for a 3.5L, but not anymore. This one is ok on all aspects, since I don't plan to tow anything.

Best mods/upgrades for SR? I'm slowly adding/modifying my lil' rig. So far:

-upgraded interior lights to led bulbs
-upgraded rear license plate lights to led bulbs
-added auto pop and lock to tailgate locking mechanism
-added fog lights with dash button
    -added cruise control stalk
-built dog platform for access cab
    -a/c drain mod
-added "born in texas/built by texans sticker" (taco built in san antonio)
-attached clip on battery powered visor mirror/light for my girl
-replaced spare wheel with matching steel wheel
-replaced all 5 tires with Hankook ATMs
-upgraded entune software with toyota download file and usb stick
    -removed front air dam/chinstrap

Any other cheap, DIY things to do? I'm thinking of sealing up the bed lockers to prevent water from infiltrating. Thoughts?

It allows you to access contacts, the dial-pad, and several other options while the vehicle is in motion, which is a big upgrade for me! Allegedly, it does something beneficial to the audio but I haven't noticed a difference.
