So, got my HIDs installed today. Took some quick pics before I installed both HIDs..may do a full picture set/swap one of these days. But in all the pictures below, its 1 4300k Philips HID (driver side) and 1 Hikari V2 (PHILIPS LUMILEDS) (passenger side) then full HID.

To be honest, I was expecting A LOT more from HIDs. I can't personally recommend switching to them if you already have a good pair LEDs. I may like them more once they color shift closer to 4700-5000k...but for now...I"m almost tempted to put back in my Hikaris..sadly. Also should note that the HIDs have a little bounce to them that I noticed right away. Nothing crazy, but going over bumps I can see them bounce around a little, never saw that on LEDs. This is just my first impression..I'll have to see if I 'warm' up to them over the next few days/weeks.

And one with everything on (minus highs/fogs) for giggles.

Thanks for sharing your results. So when you say Hikari V2, is that the one with the Phillips Lumileds? The Eye of Megatron (on the box) version?

Yep, that is complete BS. Also look at the LED chip placement, it does not replicate a halogen filament at all other than being in the rough approximate place. Compare that to other products discussed in the thread like the Hikaris that actually try to mimic a filament. The further you get from mimicking the filament, the more the lighting geometry changes, and even subtle changes will wash out a hot spot and cripple distance projection, which is why people often complain about LEDs lack of ‘throw’. In short, they may put out a bunch of light (no where near their claims) but their performance in a halogen housing will be terrible.

Awesome info, thanks. I just got the 31mm festoon for the dome light and it was way too big. Measured out at 35mm rather than the 31mm advertised. I recommend getting another brand.

I think the HID's are brighter. Of course they're yellower, but I like that. Look at the beam pattern on the garage door. Tell me there's not more light there......Kirk Out

I have flipped through this thread. Seems to be lots of info in here. I apologize if I missed it.

Is it possible to achieve equal or more throw in a reliable LED bulb for our housing? I don't want to modify or mount anything inside so HID isn't really something looking for at this time. If not possible, I'll probably just stick with the halogen's. I also live in a snowy cold climate, so keeping snow off the housing is a must.

Distance throw is based on focus and output. Greater focus is achieved through smaller more precise light sources. You'll get better distance projection with an H9 halogen swap which bumps lumens from 1250 to 2100. But if you wanted to go LED, the Hikaris are the smallest thus far meaning best LED focus for best distance projection in the projector housing.
