Hi TW. I used to have a nice 2009 Reg cab with OME 884x's w/OME front struts and Dakar's w/Skyjacker H7045 rear shocks. Why Skyjunkers? they were a bit longer than the OME rear shocks and way less money, I was actually happy with them which was a bonus. Cheaping out rarely works out well, anyway... I ran a 2014 F150 Reg cab short bet 4x4 for an extended Canadian overland trip documented on expeditionportal, then a 2015 Jeep JK with all kinds of lift bits, was a great trail rig then a 2018 Subaru WRX for a bit, then a 2017 Jeep JKU with some lift but not as aggressively setup as the previous JK and now for the great news.......... I picked up a 2018 Cement TRD OR access cab Tacoma :)

So with the new Tacoma my thought to keep it simple is to simply run some 3rd gen 5100's with stock coils at 1.1 and the toytec AAL with the extended length 5100's and a bump stop spacer out back, I will address the brake lines as needed.

I am on a budget as I returned to University and have recently started a Masters degree. Otherwise I would run the Fox 2.0's like I did on the F150 up front. Out back I would run Dakars like I had on the previous Tacoma.

I don't anticipate any added weight up front anytime in the near future, for the rear I will add a Leer 180 next spring. I've got a Warn M8000s that I will put on a cradle/tray setup for the rear if I need it. If I destroy the front bumper I will upgrade at that time knowing new coils are needed for to support the weight.

Any of you TW crew running the toytec AAL with a cab level or one level up camper shell?

If I end up with too much rake I can move to the 1.55 setting up front.

    Thanks!!

Don’t lift at all and use it to commute in. Finish your degree and then put a little into something that you will only have to pay once like ADS, King, or Bilsteins. Don’t buy Fox, despite what the popular belief is on Fox...you have to spend quite a bit more to actually get great quality out of Fox and that’s not just opinion it’s experience and shop advice as well. I run ADS only after having a full OME setup and I cannot begin to describe the comfort, confidence and more pleasure it is to drive in any terrain. I should have just started with the ADS which is why I recommend you wait.

Pay once, cry once as the saying goes

haha nothing wrong with your suggestions but I need the ground clearance for the light trails i like to explore and get out on camping trips, the extra 1 - 1.5 inches while it doesn't sound like much makes a big difference. also, I could spend triple the money on some fancy coil overs but in reality they still don't get me any travel up front. at least when spending big bucks on my JK suspension i was getting actual down travel, with a 3 inch lift i ran Fox 2.0 shocks that were 6-7 inches longer than stock shocks!

up front i will likely cheap out for now and go with 5100's, unless i skip to the Fox 2.0's (I had no complaints last time I ran these). because i am not in a position to install this stuff paying somebody to assemble the 5100's kinda pisses me off

so really i am mostly curious to hear from people running the Toytec AAL and have a camper shell, what kind of lift is the result?

    thanks!

    Awesome rigs!
If you really want to cheap out, get a set of 255/85/16. Stock wheels, stock suspension, and it’ll lift your truck with better traction. I’m in school as well so that was my quickest, cheapest option in lift/traction.

    Thanks!

I had considered doing what you suggested with the classic cooper st 255's, i had ran them before and they were nice and measure in at 33.2. but i wanted a snow rated tire and stuck with 265/75/16 falken at3w. gas mileage was also a factor in tire size consideration as i do a lot of mileage. i suspect next round of tires i may go back to 255's.

Ended up ordering the toytec/eibach lift, got a good price and the coil overs are assembled, so less money wasted on labour, rear shocks are extended travel which was on my list also so went for it! pics to come. truck is up to 5500km now already, will be lose to 7000km by end of the week...
