When I did my 3.4 clutch I did use a trans jack but if I ever had to donit again I would just make a plywood and 2x4 cradle for it. Also if you haven't pulled it before, the center of gravity is damn near at the division between the transfer case and the transmission. That transfer case is STUPID HEAVY.

I got some ultra high temp urea grease from honda for the pivot points and input shaft, it helps make everything silky smooth.

I highly recommend a new Toyota flywheel and marlin crawler's HD clutch kit too if you decide to change the whole she-bang.

Bummed everything s'ploded, now doubly glad I didn't charge that hole. Some black magic fuckery happening in there.

I'd be down to join in a mod/work day and lend a hand doing your clutch'n'stuff.

Yes, sir, I have, indeed, had that tranny/t-case out. Pulled it myself with a little assistance from good old gravity. I had the flywheel resurfaced by a machine shop to get the heat cracks out of it and put an Aisin clutch kit in it--new pilot bearing, disc, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing--did it about 3 or 4 years ago. I wanted to go with Marlin's HD kit, but it was out of stock with no indication on when it would be back in stock, so I went with the Aisin kit, which was pretty inexpensive, from RockAuto. I've been very pleased with the clutch. When it was new it would engage so buttery smooth compared to the old one that stuttered like crazy when it engaged. It still engages smoothly, but I'm used to it now and I pretty much don't notice it. It's never slipped on me and it's only chattered once from being wet and that was at Richloam last June. Honestly, I like it better than I probably would have the Marlin kit because while the pressure plate doesn't have the clamping force, the clutch pedal is nice and light, and like I said, it's never slipped on me so I would probably replace it with another Aisin kit if I had to. When I put the tranny back in, Rick (@Trd sport tacoma ) and Mike (@SpruceTaco who turned to the dark side and is a dodge owner now) helped me get it in.

As for the throw-out bearing, I'm not going to say it's junk; it's had to deal with a lot of abuse with mud and water and clutch dust mixed in with it. I'm just hoping the bearing is bad but still turning and it's not seized up wearing down the pressure plate fingers. I guess after I get the truck cleaned up I'll pull the lever boot and see if I can get a look in there to see how bad it is.

But yeah, definitely, with 5 of us, we could probably work both trucks at the same time.

Thanks, John. At least my issues can be sorted out by a little sweat, turning some wrenches, and a couple fairly cheap parts. I feel bad for you. Your carnage is much more serious than mine and it's gonna cost a lot more to fix. I'm pretty sure we all had a great time, but it was definitely a costly weekend for our crew. :bananadead:

I just hope once I get it all cleaned off and start inspecting the damage I don't find anything else. :fingerscrossed:
