Hey guys, my apologies if someone has asked this already, I’ve searched everywhere and can’t find anything.
My issue is that if I let the truck sit for a while (6+ hours), I can’t really accelerate after taking out of park for a few seconds. Basically, I’ll get in, turn it on, put it into drive, and start to go... except it won’t accelerate if I hit the gas. The rpms will jump, but I’ll only roll at the idle speed. Anyone else have this issue?? Is it normal? Is there a fix? It’s literally impossible to talk to Toyota cause they’ll ask me to bring it in, but it only happens when it’s been sitting a while, and even then, doesn’t happen every time.

Any help or info is greatly appreciated!

Is it prolonged or just for a second? If it's very brief it could be you're just sensing the torque converter getting the impeller spun up.

That's a problem. Take it in. Now, not later.

I'll bet it's low on fluid. From the factory.

Arrange to park it in their lot overnight, but don't give them the keys. Go the next morning and have their writer or tech in the truck with you to show them what it does.

DO NOT let them try to tell you it's normal. It's not. Hopefully they won't pull that.

They should say 'wow' and take it from there.

If it is low on fluid as part of the repair process, ask for an extended warranty on their dime, as it came from Toyota low.

    OP,

I had this same exact issue. Symptoms were word-for-word. I since got the TSB Transmission Software Update and OVTune and have not seen it.

I had it before TSB, but not from dead start. Usually at the stop sign or slow moving traffic while rolling a bit.
Got TSB a month ago and drove 1K since. Started noticing it again.
    ...and I had fuilds checked..
..and TCU learning mode totally trashed my hype of TSB.

Thanks for the info guys. Finally got around to leaving at the dealership. Left it overnight then came in the morning and tried to show them and of course it didn’t do it. They told me I was up to date on software.
Long story short, haven’t been able to get it to happen with a tech in the car, it’s too intermittent and they won’t do anything if it’s not reproducible. It also doesn’t seem like the stumble condition on that other thread, I’m only giving it like 10% gas because it feels like I’ll break something if I really put my foot down, and only after starting up and putting into drive.

TacoBleu, it’s super brief. Like realistically less than a full second. But I also have literally no idea what you just said... lol

Torque converter leak down ? There's a check valve on most vehicles in trans cooler line. Maybe it's leaking. Just a possibility.
    It shouldn't do that.

Have you thought about the rear drums locking? Seem to be an issue that a few have had. Next time it happens put it in reverse before it frees itself. Or put the handbrake on and pull away then release handbrake. If the truck feels / acts the same, then it’s probably the rear drums sticking.

I don’t think it’s the drums? I always put the handbrake on and have forgotten it before and this feels different. Almost like something finally “engages” and lets me go.
