What’s up Tacoma World!! Just finished my storage/ sleeping platform for my 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad DCLB. My previous thread showed pictures of the build process. Here is the finished product with the installation of the cabinet doors that I made.
The doors are made out of plexiglass that I cut down to size. I used a jigsaw to round the corners. I spray painted the backside with a black semi gloss paint to give it a tinted look. I used some cabinet hinges and magnetic catches for the hardware.
I wanted to add some storage pouches for easy to access items. I went to the local military surplus store and found 2 different style “Condor” brand pouches that fit just right in the front of the cabinet on the right side. I also found a military cot storage pouch that fit just right on the side wall of the top compartment. We will use it to store easy to access items like our cell phones, when we are sleeping in the back of the truck.
The only other thing that I will be adding is a yeti bottle opener to the right of the top pouch.
I’m in it for a total of $550. Here are some pictures of the finished platform...

@butters_ I haven’t really weighed it to get an exact weight..... but it is made out of 5/8” birch plywood.... it breaks down to 3 cabinets plus the two middle slides that make the complete sleeping platform... I’m guessing all of it weighs maybe 100lbs.... definitely not more than 150lbs.

Nice work! I'm planning to do similar to your driver's side - only with a drawer. I currently have a drawer that takes up all the bed but want to have more 'truck space'. But, I like the drawer so I can keep some things secure - especially if I'm out hunting or fishing.

Are you going to add some type of carpet? Seems like stuff would slide around if not fastened down

@slowboater I did consider a drawer system for that side... but you lose a lot of usable storage space once you install the tracks.. and the drawer becomes more narrow because of the wheel well gets in the way......also, my plan is to keep my camp stove in the front compartment on the driver side and cook right on my tailgate... if I went the drawer route... I would have to move my cooking gear out of the way to open the drawer.. I didn’t want to deal with that issue. If I made the driver side cabinet any wider, I wouldn’t have enough room to put my yeti cooler between the driver side and passenger side cabinets. Once you put the slide panels on the floor instead of the rails... the cooler fits perfectly. I’ll take some pics of the set up later on.

@MinerTaco I don’t plan on putting carpet... it gets too dirty once off road. The ARE camper shell I have is not completely weather proof and some dust gets in during off road situations. So I wanted something that I can wipe down before I roll out the bed roll.
Also, most of my camping gear will fit in all the cabinet space... the only thing that may be loose is A few bags and maybe my camp chairs.... I still have the tie down rails on the driver side that I can use. Worst case, I can add tie down points to the cabinets. I’ll find out once I load all my gear. I will post any pics of any further mods that I make. Stay tuned.

Here are some pictures of my camp stove stored in the compartment where it will be kept and where I plan to cook. That is why I didn’t go the pull out drawer route. I would have to move the stove every time I would need to get into the drawer.
Also posted pictures of my current camp kitchen box that I modified. It is a sterilite brand storage tote that I added a harbor freight tool roll to the underside of the lid and reinforce with cabinet door hardware to support the weight.
Now that I have storage I will be down sizing to a smaller box. I bought a MTM ammo crate that I will also modify to a camp kitchen box in the near future. The new ammo box fits perfectly under the slide panels. I will post pics later.

I love what you did to that tote. I had done something similar a while back but didn’t think to add the hrdware to it. You’ve got a sweet setup!

I was able to fit about 80% of what I had stored in my tote camp kitchen set up in the new compartment of my platform. The only thing that didn’t fit were all my cooking utensils. They will fit if I just cram them in there.. but I like to be organized so that’s not gonna fly. I will be modifying the new ammo box.

Here is my First Aid kit. I think this is where I’m gonna keep it when we go on our adventures. I’m coming up with ideas of how to secure it. Stay tuned. I’ll post more pics once I figure it out.
