Could still be a loose wire. Can you have a buddy read the voltage while you drive around. It would be pretty EZ to find +12 and a ground from the cigarette lighter socket. Or just run 2 temporary wires.

Found the problem. Same plug issue but one of the wires was hanging on by one strand. And it was right at the end of the plug so you couldn’t see it. It made the battery read 14.15V but it charged it on and off hence battery light.

This battery light sounds like it actually does not indicate anything about battery life and rather goes on if there is an alternator or charging problem.

    Does anyone know?

My battery recently died and I had no such light go off prior to the battery failing.

The battery ICON on the dash is misleading. It represents a charging issue.

Someone who doesn't understand this sees a lit up battery ICON and thinks the battery has a problem.

If that light stays on very long, they will have a battery problem along with a less than adequate charging system.

    It's a "charging system " warning light.

If the battery voltage gets below a certain point the light turns on.

If they put a little pic of an alternator on the dash as the warning light, no one would know what it meant

I would get a proper load tester to rule out a defective battery. I know it is new, but it can happen. Not sure what your trickle charges is capable of, but a multimeter is not the way to test a vehicle battery/charging system. I had a bad OEM battery that showed a solid 12.5V on the multimeter, but would not even take a jump start due to a broken plate/cell. Once the battery is ruled out, you can focus on other areas with more confidence.

Lester Logout - I had Chelmsford auto electric rebuild the alternator for me. They have been there a long time and I have used them before but for boat electrical parts. I don't know what was replaced other than the regulator. When I got it back it looked brand new.

I "rebuilt" a couple of alternators back in the day by simply replacing the brushes.
