I got excited about this upgrade reading the posts and hastily bought the tweeters on Amazon before realizing they are plug and play only for a 3g. I have a 2g. Any way to make these work or should I just return them? I'm comfortable splicing wires and making a bracket if needed.

    Thanks!

Well your tweeters are in the door panel and are way smaller than the bracket on the subaru tweeter, made to mount up in the dash on 3rd gens. I'd return them and spend the money on the kicker CSS69. This will swap your tweeter and woofer

They just arrived in the mail. Here is what the back looks like. Should I hunt down an adapter for this or is there an easier way to splice into what I'm assuming is the crossover?

I made adapters out of the stock tweeter harness, boom - plugin just like stock.

Barnburner, can you elaborate? What tweeters did you modify and, do those in the bottom picture bolt up in the 2nd gen?

I used the Subaru Kicker tweeters and didn't modify them at all. They physically bolt in like the stock 2nd gen tweeters, but the factory tweeter plug doesn't work - hence the wiring adapter made from the stock 2nd gen tweeter pigtail.

Barnburner, is it just the two female flat blade-style connectors that are needed inside the tweeters where the square connector typically goes?

Why do people buy the Subaru tweeters? Is it supposed to be a significant upgrade? I'm not being condescending, I am genuinely curious.

It seems like there should be many, many good choices on the market for great sounding highs.

    Bunch of Basic Taco mods.
    A. They (supposedly) sound much better than the factory Tacoma ones. I can’t comment, but that wouldn’t be hard. They are made by Kicker.

    B. They are plug and play for the 3rd gen, and require very little work to install in the 2nd gen.

I put a component set in my front doors instead, not hard for me but for someone looking for a more OEM like option the Subaru tweeters are the go to. Fitting my Infinity tweeters in was all custom.

For about $100 more than the Subaru tweeters I got kicker ds component 6x9 set. They sound pretty good for getting power from alpine ilx-207.

I can't say tacoma specific but I did this in a crosstrek and the upgrade is very noticeable. The tweeters are more like small full range speakers, much clearer sound and such an easy upgrade.
