I have the sport and I go OFF ROAD all the time! Obviously, I’m not running the standard car tires that come on it

If you go the 4x2 route I would definitely get the off road since it comes stock with a rear locker. I don’t do any off-roading besides casual trails but the other day I was in a situation where the rear wheels were spinning and with my rear locker engaged I pulled right out. The sport 4x2 doesn’t come with a rear locker so the sport would have been useless to me in that situation.

You can always add a Locker (air or electronic) to the Sport. It's honestly not that expensive.

True but he already said he likes the look of the off road more with the black trim so it would be easier IMO to buy a off-road and just add a scooped hood rather than having to add a locker and black trim.

If he doesn’t want to get into crazy modding like he says and he wants a 4x2 the sport is just not a smart choice unless he just loves the hood scoop that much but from what I’ve read I guess that’s why people buy the sport.

My opinion? Get the Sport (2x or 4x), pop the fender over-brows off (fairly easy) spray them with either Plastic Dip or bed liner (bed liner would be my choice) and pop them back on. Wheels and tires are easy to find. BTW - unless Toyota changed something up the tires on the Off Road truck in your picture are NOT the factory tires. If you want to complete the Off Road look paint the front bumper center black as well.

Which ever path you take I hope you enjoy your Taco as much as I (we) enjoy mine. BTW - to quote RobP62, "Best Damn Color..."

A guy on here with an Off Road found a guy on here with Sport that wanted the flat hood so they traded. Now that's a go figure.

Yeah I’m sure he has a 4x4 sport tho because if not I would ask him why he chose the 4x2 sport then because that’s all it has the off road doesn’t. Most people do choose form over function tho so I guess I could understand.

Beautiful truck man. Still can’t fathom why toyota would get rid of the best color in their lineup. I’ll let @RobP62 properly welcome you to the inferno squad.

It’s really easy it’s just screws. If I remember it was like 8 on the bottom side, just crawl under the front and you will see them, once you unscrew those it just comes right off. Looks way better

I should also apologize to all the other new members in the Inferno thread for not welcoming them properly. I'm sure others picked up my slack, and I appreciate that. Work has been insane lately and there's no hint of it slowing down. Plus I've been a little busy with mods. Like adding Bilstein 6112's & 5160's, JBA Upper Control Arms, Headstrong 3 Leaf Add A Leaf, East Coast Gear Supply Needle Bearing Bushing Replacement.
