I thought I'd get my windshield replaced but safelite took a look and said they couldnt place a new windshield on AFTER they removed they the cracked glass. Every body shop is telling me that theyre gonna cut off my entire roof instead of just welding a new metal sheet in place of the old one. Keep in mind they havent even seen the truck so im wondering what you guys would do. I live in AZ so its legal to drive without a windshield but I'd prefer not to.

I called USAA and they say the rust is considered "wear and tear" and they will not help me get a new roof if i chose to go down that route.

Anyone ever gone through this or have recommendations? Any help is appreciated

how bad is the rust? pics?

Can you take a wire wheel to it and remove the surface rust, or is it rotted through in spots?

The glass place is just covering there butt.

If new glass is installed the chance it might leak is enough to say no .

then once you start on the repair it gets worse then you had thought

any Mom and Pop glass shops that might let you squeak by with the minimum repair needed ??

I'm calling Safelite again because they'll warranty any chips it develops too but I just got a sander and went to work and honestly I'm kinda pissed everyone was giving me the worst case scenario. It's got a bit of pitting but that's really it. No other holes or thin spots really.
