Dude, you can disable it but cannot delete it unless you spend $$$$$$$$$.

just unplug the camera and sensor behind the grill. You will have to live with the dash warning that the system has a malfunction.

Well . . . the lesson I learned from all of this is "don't let your wife drive your new truck"

Mine has beeped 4 times. Twice were me approaching someone waiting to turn left. Hardly phased me because I was already slowing down but not applying the brakes yet. One time was going up a hill in a turn. Last time was l was going around a slow corner in a business park and the truck thought that a parked car was in front of me because the curve was in that direction. Never once has it applied the brakes, and not once have I felt unsafe.

The only annoyance is that it increases the windshield replacement price but my window is covered for 5 years with no deductible

My tss doesnt work at all (only had it tell me to tell me to brake 2 times when nothing was on the road in front or next to me). Guess I should consider it a blessing lol

We've had this in the trucking industry for a long time now. We used to not have dash cams so we always got data on "events" like OP is describing which includes your current speed, following distance, and the other vehicles speed. Sometimes drivers stories would match what the data said, like someone cutting in front. Sometimes it didn't match. Then we got dash cams that only recorded when a "event" happened which has led to some very interesting videos.

Ultimately, sometimes these stories of what happened don't match up or they happen so fast, you don't realize what all is going on. I'm not saying your wife is lying to you about what happened, I'm just saying there is possibly something she could have done to avoid that from happening.

These systems have saved a lot of accidents. Whether it's due the drivers fault or another vehicle. I prefer to have it in mine and in all my driver's trucks.

Also I wouldn’t want to “delete” it and end up rear ending someone. That persons lawyer I’m sure would love to know you did that.

Here's something I have stumbled across in my journeys around the internets.... Details how to disable the system through Techstream.

Just wondering if the TSS does indeed brake as hard as some people describe, could it cause a manual equipped vehicle to stall out if the driver doesn't react quick enough (by not depressing the ckutch)?

I'm sure it's probably a non issue here but this is my first vehicle equipped with all of these "safety features"

My muscle memory kicks in , left foot clutch, right foot brake. The truck reacts in milliseconds, it has kinda saved my ass already.

Every time we have one of these threads, a bunch of people come out and repeat the same misinformation:
    1. The TSS system can only warn you to brake, but can't brake for you!
    2. The TSS system can't/won't brake for you unless you're using adaptive cruise!
    3. The TSS system can't/won't brake except at low speeds!
These are all wrong. TSS is active all the time, looking for potential impacts with the forward radar and camera, and will apply the brakes for you. While I have not personally experienced what @WVditchdiggin says happened, I fully believe that it can and does happen just like he said. These systems are not (yet) perfect and false positives WILL happen. The Toyota engineers are not gods and they have not designed an infallible system.

The first time mine acts up, I will disable it permanently through TechStream. If you just disable it through the in-dash settings, TSS will re-enable next time you start the truck. TechStream must be used to toggle the "Remember TSS state" option so that your TSS choices will be retained.

The cable will work, software is questionable. I paid $15 for the exact same cable from Amazon, it came with software on the CD but was a joke, so I simply downloaded techstream from places listed on the Tundra forum.

This is the one I got, looks like it’s increased in price, but it’s the exact same cable.

Thanks for this, I was unaware that could be temporarily done through the in-dash settings. I've been doing some pretty sketchy mountainside trails that I'd hate to have something new and different react or scream at me at a point where my nerves are already jacked up. I'm all for the tech, but there are times it would be an unproductive intrusion, to say the least.

My 2018 did the same thing. I was doing about 35 in my neighborhood and the truck flashed to stop then braked. Took it to the dealer and they said they couldn’t fine anything in the logs and pointed to the user manual. Their answer was that the truck saw a tree on the side of the road and caused the TSS to activate.

What they said didn’t make any sense. They went as far as to say that if it did it again it would be in the logs. I explained that I did’t have any confidenance in their answer as the initial instance wasn’t in the logs.

Still working with Toyota corporate at this point.
