Was this a problem on the Access cabs? It seems to me I only saw issues on the double cabs, but I didnt keep up with it too much.
Still something to check out though, thanks.

no idea. but 10- 12 bucks for car wash vs mold city? I came across 2 dcsb used in WI that both had it. Luckily it monsooned on the way there the night before and I found puddles in rear seat cargo areas. 2nd truck the same day I took to a car wash and it leaked bad also. Both salesmen were then mute and said theres nothing they could do until corp told them. Or they waited for the next Joe Shmo to buy.

    OP,

Judging by how the thin the leaf pack looks here I’d say it has a spacer/block lift. Not the worst, gets a lot of hate around here and if you don’t do off reading like you said than this is just fine.

These trucks are too new to say with trust how the longevity is. This is one of the higher ones I’ve seen. I bought a 11’ 4Runner a couple years ago with 96k miles and it ran fine up until 150k miles when I sold it. Never gave me any issues. That is one sharp looking truck and Inferno is definitely the best color:thumbsup: really take your time inspecting it, ask questions if something doesn’t look right and if it looks funny than walk away. If it’s worth it to you to have that color, go for it or wait for another one to come along. I’m sure you will find another Inferno with potentially lower miles down the road. Best of luck either way OP.

67k miles is not an insignificant amount. I think a few thousand dollars is worth a few extra years of use. This would be a hard pass for me.

Well, I talked to the salesman on the SR5. He had no idea what lift it was. I asked him to get me some pics of the suspension and I asked him to start the truck and see if the TPMS light was on.
Here is what we have. I told him I couldn't pay more than 20k for that truck. He called back and says his manger is set on 24k, they already dropped it 3k, which they did. Well, will be talking to local dealer this afternoon.IMG_0959.jpg IMG_0956.jpg IMG_0957.jpg

The front suspension confirms that it is a spacer lift kit.

In all honesty, 24k isn’t too bad for a 2016 Tacoma with 67k miles. I’ve seen some 2010-2012 Tacoma’s with over 80k miles in my area sale in the 22k-26k range bone stock.
If 20k is what you want to pay and feel is reasonable than stick to it. I’m sure you will find another Inferno down the road.

For myself when I went shopping for my truck, I was going to spend around 25k-28k on a 2012-2015 Tacoma. I realized a lot of them had over 60k Miles and spending an extra 10k to get something brand new that no one else has abused or used was worth it to me.

There is a world of difference between the SR and SR5. I would not buy an SR new. Especially not for $30k

The issue I see with the SR5 is the suspension. It is very hard to see but it almost looks like its either a large block lift or its an air suspension.

I also hate those tires. Ugly as hell.
The wheels look like real beadlocks. Which is great but some tire shops don’t like beadlocks.

If it where me I would ask if the dealer could remove the lift (free of charge). And ask if you can bring in or buy a new set of wheels and tires to mount after the removal.

Don’t buy a new truck. Keep looking for a good used one.

The spacer lift is not a huge deal for me, as I said earlier, my off road adventures involve ATV's, the truck is just for getting to the trail head.
The thing that would bug the hell out of me is the TPMS light on all the time. I would have to buy sensors and either have them installed or build the TPMS canister to get that light off.
In all honesty, when I told him 20k I was prepared for them to come back with 22, and I would have been on my way there, but they are not willing to drop anymore, so that is a dead deal.

The SR for 30k is with a V6 and tow package (not a bumper pull), along with the SX package that adds black fender flares and door handles. On the exterior it resembles an OR. I know about all the other stuff inside, but I will be swapping the headunit with an Android Auto unit anyway. Fog lights are easy to add. Also note that the 30k is MSRP, without the USAA discount and other negotiations.
Talking of bringing in new wheels and tires just means more cost out of pocket, and they are not willing to drop below 24k, so that is a no go here.

I say buy new, what is the price $31 to $33k

At 67k miles, you can decide tovoffer it for sale for $26k.

The problem is when trucks hold their value, used trucks are good for seller, not buyer.

I would make sure you gather info on new truck prices before you decise. Is a clearance 2018 not an option?

24k for a 3rd gen 4wd is a killer deal regardless of the high milage, but Tacomas hold their value so well that it's hard not to spend a little extra cash and get a new one. The spacer kit does look a little sketchy :)

I personally would not buy a unknown modded truck. The math says buy a new one. Remember that if there is a warranty issue and Toyota decides it is related to the mods, they will not cover it.

Are they oversized tires? If so the speedo/odo is most likely off and it has more then 67k on it.

If it were stock I’d be more comfortable with it once modded it opens up a lot of questions about who did it. Was it done right. Was it beat on and am I buying someone else’s headache.

I’m not into the lifts, but what stood out to me was:
    1) High Miles vs. age
    2) Unknown work performed - if Dealer didn’t offer up that they had all service paperwork, you have no idea if professionally done or shade tree (likely shade tree). Not that this presents an issue, but it makes you question- Why did they get rid of it? You don’t give up on such things unless it is a good idea.
    3) Notice Maintinance goes from 10K (Toyota’s standard) to 3K? People don’t change to commercial servicing at that close an interval (expensive) unless the price is right... you guessed it - switch from Toyota recommended Synthetic to traditional motor oil (lord knows if even the right viscosity).
    4) Out of a Tacoma and into what? If he traded at the Nissan/Kia dealership, what would it be for? There is nothing here this type of person would ‘want’... So this is an auction car. Meaning, the dealer bought it for a price and wants to sell it for a price, knowing nothing about it. If it doesn’t sell, back to auction.
    5) Modded truck means Toyota will fight any goodwill warranty even if it appears a flaw that may be covered. It is out of factory, so goodwill warranty is all that might remain.

I’d stay away - troubling history and no warranty = red flag for me.

I gotta think that you will be able to get 10% off MSRP give or take a bit for the SX. I got my OR with a tow package for 32K, so they will need to move on the SX if they want to move any. I would rather have 0 miles than 67k miles with no warranty.

Maybe it’s just me, but the car fax made it look like the original owner either did work himself or didn’t service the truck all too often sometimes.

I know you mentioned no open recalls, it if you go there in person, I would seriously take a look at that rear diff. Especially since the salesperson could just wipe it down before sending you a picture.

Cold start the truck. Look for white smoke. Blown head gaskets will throw white smoke but only really apparent on the first start of the day

I had to order this configuration due to this region will not be getting many SR with the V6. So, I will have maybe the only one of its kind in my area. 12 week anticipated wait.
