Need speaker advice - 2003 double cab taco

Instead of me hijacking someone's thread (sorry).

I don't plan on upgrading my stock stereo, but I would like to upgrade my speakers. From my understanding, I don't really need much to improve the sound.

So here are my two option from Crutchfield as I want to make it as plug and play as possible and they do offer free accessories with purchase.

Focal maybe a little overkill, but currently it's almost half off from it's normal price.

Much easier to upgrade your head unit, plus more sound beneficial. I just upgraded the H/U in my 04' xcab. Much improved sound.. May do speakers later though...

 

Crutchfield did an write up a few years back where they tested the difference in swapping out speakers vs HU in a vehicle. They used a frequency spectrometer to measure objective differences between the two and they found that replacing the HU and using stock speakers gave significantly much better results than using aftermarket speakers with the factory HU.

If you're set on replacing your speakers, though, I'd go for the Focals between those two any day. I've used quite a few brands of speakers over the years and RF stuff has usually been subpar in my experience. You should also consider

Polk Audio DB6501 6.5" 2-Way Component System (Pair, Silver)

Polk Audio DB6501's or a set of JBL GTO Components.

The Polk's have gotten rave reviews for years on many websites. I have a set of JBL's currently and they sound great. I am bi-amping them with a JBL GTO 4 channel amp.

 

Don’t spend the money on Focal unless you plan on putting a fairly beefy amp on them. They need power to sound good. Rockford is good for the money, Polk is awesome, jbl is great if you can snag a sale, I’m a huge Kicker fan, alpine is good. Cheap speakers are cheap for a reason, and expensive speakers need good power.

Look into the Kicker Key amp. Lots of folks here have been getting those and giving rave reviews. 45w x 4. Great way to make aftermarket speakers sound fantastic and make up for the factory radio’s shortcomings in audio quality.
