Yet another catback question.

I’m looking at catback exhaust systems. I’m unsure on which kit to purchase. The best that I can tell on YouTube, is that the

$736 magnaflow 15811 magnaflow 2000-2004 toyota tacoma street series cat-back performance exhaust system, 2.7L, 3.4L

magnaflow 15811 kit actually exits out from under the truck between the frame and the leaf spring. This would be ideal for me, as I have extended shackles, and my factory exhaust is very close to the spring because it’s routed underneath the leaf spring with an extended bracket. I like the fitment of the magnaflow kit, as best that I can tell. Can anyone verify that this is actually where it exits, as other kits clearly exit under, and even behind the leaf spring. I don’t really care for loud exhausts, definitely do NOT want an awful interior drone noise.
I’ll admit that up until this point, I’ve not cared for performance anything with my truck, but I’ve got some other things coming as well, and was hoping someone up here could help me out.

I will say that in other videos, I have seen the muffler mounted vertically instead of horizontal like you have yours. If the muffler offset is enough, it may fix your clearance issue. Even though I was thinking of mounting this kit exactly like you mounted yours. The hangers are on the pipe, so loosen the muffler clamps and it will spin, correct? Like I said, I have no idea, that’s why I was asking my question first. Thanks for your input.

 

I just installed the JBA cat back it fit great and is slightly louder than stock.Its also priced cheaper than the other SS systems.

 

Can you post a picture of where your tip exits or at least describe where it exits from?

Like I said, I’ve not actually seen this kit with my own eyes, but you’re right, for the cost I was honestly expecting it to fit like socks on a chicken.

 

Anyone have any experience with any other kits? Flow master, Borla, mbrp, Gibson?

Ditto. I was looking at the Borla kit since I have used their stuff before and really liked it.

 

i have a magnaflow on my car its quite rusty after just a few months. the magnaflow 4" round body on my truck seems to be holding up fine (9 months old)

 

Here's a good article on the differences in stainless alloys, and which one is better for resisting rust. Borla uses 304 Stainless in all of their systems.

I’ve been looking for a good system as well. I’m leaning towards a Gibson.

I drive down to southern Louisiana for work and park close enough to salt water so that’s what I chalked it up to. It’s still holding up. I’m planning on replacing both cats pretty soon and going to take a wire wheel to my cat back to clean it up while I have it off the truck.

 

Your video on YouTube is what made me so interested in the magnaflow kit. You have the same rear shackles that I do, and I like the fact that it uses that space to exit. The other kits I’ve looked at, and even my stock exhaust just seems too low to the ground for me, being routed underneath the leaf spring.

 

you can just buy this and run the exhaust you want.

This bracket kit is designed to lower the mounting position of the exhaust to provide proper clearance when installing the Old Man Emu Dakar Leaf Springs or aftermarket lift shackles.

 

I already have a similar bracket that came with my shackles. That’s how my exhaust is set up now. So far the only two kits that I’ve seen that route the exit wher I’d like it to be is magnaflow and mbrp. I’m leaning towards getting the Borla kit, but that tip is just overkill for me. I’d like to have the exhaust tucked up out of the way and out of sight as much as possible. Just like everything else, they don’t make what I want...lol good thing I can do some custom work myself. I just don’t feel like spending 5-6 hundred dollars and then have to cut on it.

 

TRD?

 

I got a trd catback, not too loud. No noticeable noise at idle until you give it some throttle. Also, the exhaust tip have a better clearance then most aftermarket brand.

 

Honestly I’ve not even looked for a TRD kit, thought they didn’t make them anymore.
