I’m gonna keep looking for it but it’s not a constant leak from the looks of it since its crusted over and there are no signs of leak stains on my drive way. Hopefully it’s something easy to fix.

Take a look at the heater core inlet hose. It is a small rubber hose that runs from the engine block into the firewall. It is above the area you are seeing coolant stains. If one of the hose fittings are leaking, it could produce results like you are seeing.

if its leaking around the transmission theres a good chance its the freeze plug at the back of the engine... or check around the cylinder heads, could be an external headgasket leak. unless your heater valve is leaking up on the firewall thats all i can think of off the top of my head

Cam pulleys are made of steel. Seals are made of rubber. I'm gonna replace the 20+ year old rubber.

I'm confident in my ability to seat a seal. So not worried about opening any cans of worms.

    Thank you , good advise.

    Here's the facts,
a.I'm the 2nd owner, I got it as is ,08--08-2016 didnt notice issue until 11-28-16
b.Toyota quote me for new upgraded axle full work of breaks , parts and labor 3100
c.Did only wheel bearing, bearing retainer , rear drum hardware kit, brake shoes, axle seal (188 parts and 368 labor) A1 automotive 12-02-2016
    d. noticed saturday tiny hair oil mark, went there for check A1 , out of warranty , quoted me 360 for just replacing parts. ( No labor ) I didnt approved, went back home and picture attached is puddling oil yesterday)
    e. Call them back today, I send it to shop and they agreed to do it again but just the Seal Axle is going to be change now at no cost . Then I proposed to buy axle and toyo parts new (800 or whatever) so they can make it right this time , they said NO, they dont want me to see waste this much and then I may come again with the leak , they suggest change the whole Axle and housing from low miles junk yard truck or new so for sure wont leak.

I talked a couple mech on the phone , they said 99% is faulty installation of the zeals.

I send A1 the timmy the video zeal install , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVhSDnw2ugo and I ask them to do the couple of suggestions he made on video so this wont fail again,( minute 50 of video ) I told them if they dont change the way of doing it , the result will be the same and most likely it sounds they will not change their ways......

They will put me new zeal and I will be again... SOLO to see how long will take to leak again,....

This is the reason I dont like to buy USED :smack:

I talked with toyotacamelback about the upgraded axle, it's just stronger but the leak is related to zeal installation 99% of times..

dOES ANYONE passed this stupid leak nightmare?

I'm with you on this one, Ben.

I didn't do the cam or crank seals when I did my timing belt, nor did I do the rear main when I did the clutch. 286k miles on my rig and it uses zero oil.

I'll replace them when they start leaking.

Nearly two years before it started leaking? I wouldn't be blaming the install. It's a bit of a trick to get the retainers and seals setup correctly in a elocker/ABS axle, but if they did it wrong it would be leaking even sooner.

I've done it twice myself without issue.

You might have another problem going on like bent axle shafts, or clogged breather.

My left axle seal started leaking earlier this year. I had the seals & bearings replaced on both sides. 3 months later right side started leaking. Had the right side replaced under warranty. Rear end shop couldn't find anything wrong, seals looked good, axle shaft straight. Right side still leaking after replacing seals again.

I pulled the diff breather to check it again (I first checked it when the left side first started leaking). Still seemed good but since the right side still leaked after replacing the seals a second time I decided to just replace the diff breather anyway. Problem solved, hasn't leaked since.

Same here @Squeaky Penguin and @m3bassman , my seals were fine, figured why touch them and risk a failed install than leave them as is.

Also agree on the rear axle seal. If the seal wasn't riding on the retainer properly you would know literally the next day.

Yes, rain. Always wondered about that. I really don't need a snorkel, only reason I am considering it is because its $100. I also went wheeling with my buddy once who hydrolock his FJ which has kind of worried me since. hahaha.

Anyone know if a snorkel has to be CARB approved to pass smog checks in CA? I know that you have to run a CARB approved CAI if you go that route, wondering if snorkels are the same.
