Terrified of getting out but it is time and I have no clue what I will do for work. I love automotive stuff but not really sure where to start or companies to look into. Any experience from those retired is greatly appreciated. I have a BS in Systems Engineering and a Masters in Adult Education.

    Thanks

Do you have a clearance? If so make a profile on clearancejobs.com. Basically build a resume and you'll get inquires quite often plus can search for jobs all over.

If you want to go in the automotive route you'd probably have to get into a trade school to get certified.

    Good luck and congrats

Retiring? Make sure your finances are in order, sell any unnecessary crap and spend some time traveling and enjoying life while still collecting a check each month.

Oh dude you're gooooooooooooooooolden! I have the same clearance, I made my profile and no shit I was receiving offers within a day! I was still deployed and had my brothers phone number up "just in case" someone wanted to call. I had to take it off because he was getting blown up. You'll get recruiters contacting you regularly. Most companies want those with an active clearance, cheaper and way less time than it is to just train someone. I work for CACI, Inc, my building has probably 60% vets and 30% company wide. I feel right at home!

Feel free if you have any questions at all, I'll be glad to help!

Just make sure the clearance doesn't expire if you plan on working. That's a golden ticket into an unlimited number of options

Yes, I know. That all makes sense, but I’m a little panicky about my sanity. I am sitting here in Afghanistan on my 8th deployment finally realizing this is all coming to an end and I am terrified about being happy doing something else. It isn’t about the money at this point. I am lucky and thankful for that at least.

@zippsub9 - PM me if you still have any questions. Recently retired and sounds like you're dealing with a similar situation I was in. If it's any conciliation, the grass is greener if you plan ahead..
