quick question as I'm paranoid after last January and want to see if there's any consensus on how *much* weight to put in the bed for winter? I have a 5 lug but interested in what others do as well. :)

Start with 100lbs over the axle and go up from there. Studded tires will be sore peter in the snow, though. Much muchier than adding weight, consider getting into an accident and whatever is in the bed can potentially become brain splattering projectiles.

I would say 150-200 pounds. That about how much a semi tire weighs. I never did sand bags.

To touch on Nick's comment about projectiles, I did strap the tires to the bed.

I usually just grab 4 or so bags of 40# clay kitty litter in the plastic bags. Can be used as a traction aid if needed and once winter is over I pull them out and use them for the cats

Yeah I used the quickrete bags the last couple of years, 4 x 60lb, when I pulled them out this spring two of them finally burst open. I have a bed mat which holds shit in place surprisingly well and a hard tonneau cover now, but yeah keeping them secured is something to consider.

No clue, not too familiar with the area... Something not too hard, but fun.
