Finished up the fillets around the back of the door tonight. Lots of sanding to do before glassing this all in. I did order a ton of 6” wide 6oz glass tape today. Should be here next week. That will help get a lot of things wrapped up.

Also threw together this super quick and dirty wheel chock for my dirtbike in the flatbed. The long 2x4 spans between the side rails in the flat bed and the wheel rolls in between the other 2x4s. It’s sitting on its back in this shot. The plywood square will rest on the floor of the flatbed. It’s going to be interesting loading the bike up that high. It may be steep enough that I have to start the bike and idle it up there. This is all temporary until I can get my rear bumper reinforced. I’ve been bumper hauling my bike but it’s tweaking the bumper mounts. I have a plan to beef it up but it’ll take some time and I want to ride now! Once the camper is on the truck, I’ll have to have a trailer. It’s never ending.

It was a decent sanding evening.

Sanded the door! It’s ready for glass. That should be the last edge reinforcement that’s needed. Then I can get to the handle/latch.

Not that you can tell here...but I also sanded all around the stub walls inside. And some other sanding cuz I was in there.

    So, still working...slowly

I may even work on the camper multiple nights this week! Getting the door done would be huge. I’m putting my focus on that...mostly...right now. Chugging along...

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about making a one off shell/rack hybrid with fiberglass?

Use epoxy. It’s more expensive but it’s so much nicer to work with...no fumes! Get the West marine stuff. It comes in complimentary sized containers of resin and hardener as well as a pump system for each size. One pump of each and the mix is perfect. Can’t mess it up and that takes out the fussiness of using epoxy. If you don’t mix epoxy just right, it won’t cure properly. The west systems system is cake.

Use marine grade plywood if you’re making anything with wood. There’s a technique to glassing over wood which I learned early on with the help of some forum members.

Buy pre-made panels if possible. I wouldn’t want to mess with making labels from foam/core and fiberglass myself.

I’m curious what you’re planning to make! Any drawings or pictures or more description?? I’m no expert at all but I’m happy to “help” in any way I can.

A friend really wants a cap, but needs it to support the weight of a RTT and not split from Offroad use. I suggested building a bed 'rack' style frame and then wrapping it in fiberglass/panels to achieve something super sturdy.

He doesn’t want to just buy a steel tube bed rack? Or look at something really sturdy like a caravan camper steel camper shell. Those are crazy burly!

I tried to tell him to get a reinforced contractor shell, but he thinks those will blow out your bedsides.
