I’ve only had the opposite problem. In high school in the mid 1990s I purchased a 1984 Jeep Cj-7 from a man who said he was a diesel mechanic. He said the oil pump went up and the motor was fried. I bought it with the expectation of putting a new engine in it (it was the in-line 258). My dad put fresh gas and a hot battery in it and had it running like a top that evening!

I bought a stripped 1960 Bug and when I say stripped it was stripped. I put if all back together and owned it for five years before it was stolen and recovered 2-3 years later. By the time the police dept contacted me it had already been in the pound for a few weeks. I gave the title to a friend after looking at it and said if he wanted it he could pay the impound fees and have it. It didn't look like the same car. It was drivable.

I felt victimized twice. I don't know why they didn't contact me sooner.
