Front diff 4wd actuator replacement?

I a previous thread I put my Tacoma in 4wd with the rear tires spinning and the fronts stationary. I fxcked up the 4wd. So I replaced the front actuator and now I have 4wd , but light blinks no 4lo and must shut off truck to disengage the 4wd. So I had the dealer do a diagnostic. The dealer states the new actuator is at a constant 6volts and they think I didn’t time it correctly on install. Is there some special trick on front actuator install ? Also they said front actuator will need to be relearned after install. Any ideas?

 

Did you mess with the other actuator on the transfer case?

Are you comfortable using a VOM meter that you could do some diagnostics yourself? If so post back and I will get you something.

I also have a brand new ADD actuator and if you think i would help I could pull its cover and see where its is clocked.

 

Taco 09 thx I’ll await. I didn’t remove the rear actuator only the gear drive. I hear the rear transfer case disengage when shifting 4wd to 2wd.

 

Here are the diagnostics. You only need a VOM meter and they are really very easy to use if the instructions for the meter are read. Even the free ones at Harbor Freight are pretty good. If you have a buddy that uses them and is more comfortable that always helps.

Tips: go to the Tacoma tab at the top and click on that. Also pay special note to the very bottom of each page as the arrows show what is happening with that shifting step and where.

I reinstalled my front actuator this time placing the fork properly in the groove. Problem solved all 4wd functions are corrected. Super duper thanks to all that helped.

 

Dont need one at the moment but saw this replacement actuator on Amazon fo $200..

Doesn't AISIN make the actuators for toyota? Seems like a good price compaerd to what toyota wants for the same thing?

Saw one place on Amazon.ca that wanted $900 for the ADD actuator.

For anyone that has purchase/replace the ADD is the AISIN one the OEM toyota one? I recall AISIN makes the the 750 transmission so i gather its quite possible they are the manufacturer of the actuator as well??
