Just about 2 days ago my 06 Toyota Tacoma v6 was running just fine. All the sudden a ratteling started coming from the front end. Almost like something broke on the inside somewhere. It got louder then stopped for a few miles. Then came back. After driving about 20 minutes it went away .there are no noticible signs of anything. Now high RPM, no overheating, all fluids are good. Nothing changed. Now when I got start my truck up it's doing the same thing. Rattles at idle and while driving. No matter the speed it gets louder then stops for a few minutes and comes back. Is it safe to drive? It's all I have and need to take my kids to school. Any ideas? 181,000 miles.

Start easy and check the heat shields on the catalytic converters. I just removed mine (4 cyl) this morning because it's been rattling for a few weeks whenever I idle the truck and drive under load.

It can be any number of things. Best to start out checking the small/cheap stuff and move up to the more expensive and complicated. Heat shields, dust covers, brackets, wires, pipes, etc.
