I also agree. I know next to nothing about a reroute but I am considering it for my skid plates and this is not how I would want mine. Too close to the plastic piece. That's a lot of heat next to that plastic and I can only imagine the havoc on it due to temperature swings, especially as we approach the winter. As others have said, put a heat shield at least. Good luck.

Just got my reroute completed for $60.

New pipe is a finger's width from the actuator (about 1/2"). I am going to wrap the pipe with the thermo-tec pipe shield. Anything else I should consider to insulate the actuator?

prefer an exhaust shield rather than a wrap for sure. wrap will also require PITA maintenance. have the exhaust shop add a shield for you.

Stainless TIG welds need to be backpurged otherwise the joint will crack/rust. Most yokel shops aren't set up to backpurge, so they don't do stainless. If they do stainless, and don't know what back purging is go someplace else.

    Too fucking low:
Given the general similarity, I have no idea why this is different than the 2nd Gens.

Also, note that someone posted a section cut and it is double walled there?

I believe mine seems to hang down less than that now, after a couple, ahhh, uses. It needs to go away, but I'm thinking that a tank skid might be a bit more important at the moment.

    ??

Do you not see the crossmember in the pic?

Also, note that what is behind the crossmember is the T case that has a factory skid. It has served me well:

It isn't that different. 2nd gens have this issue as well. Maybe not identical, but very similar.

I believe the only truck out of the 2nd and 3rd gens that doesn't have this issue is the regular cab. Mine is already tucked up.

imo they really need to add something to protect the transmission its just open to the elements there .I used to work on the hummers in the Army and those where tucked in to prevent damage to them.

So, you want to sit 6ft away from the passenger, have no interior room, and be wide as an 18wheeler? :D

    I missed the sarc font. . .

Toyota knows that anyone serious about getting it right will do it themselves and every application is a bit different. full or partial skids are available beyond the exhaust work, but i hear you on the placement. still, this isn't designed for the same applications as a hummer as you know better than me.

Once the exhaust is rerouted, you can get full skids that don't cut into the ground clearance much.

Weird. I must have seen pics of the reg cab then? I don't remember seeing it under the 2nd Gen ACLBs that I test drove. It stuck out on the 3rd Gens though.
