Just wanted to share some pics of these awsome snow tires..

I've been rocking Michelin Defender LTX's in 265/70R16... What a great tire.. Picked then up about a month ago.. Great tire in wet and light slush.. Even works good in the snow... Until about -10c... Then they get a bit hard and don't work as good..

You can't beat a dedicated snow tire when you drive around arseholes in a constant subzero climate...

So I went to Bridgestone to get a set of Blizzak W965's... And found out there is a new version of the tire called the "Blizzak LT"...

The W965 is still available, but is discontinued..

The shop had the new version in stock, so I decided to try them.. WOW!

    These are size LT245/75/16

Had the Blizzaks on my 3rd gen 4Runner and they were great here in NY. We get lots of snow and I live up a steep hill. Just ordered a set for Taco. I didn’t know that they made different ones now. Do you know what the differences are between the W965 and the LT?
    Thanks

    The differences is are...

    20% more biting edges..

    Tougher compound to last longer

And they are very round tires with no runout at all.. So they balance well.. THe w965's had the yellow or red dot... These do not..

The rubber is completely different that the W965's... Its not the porous rubber, its just normal rubber now..

I feel like these are louder though..

Thank you. One related question... I thought that the rubber in the originals was soft and that was why they worked so well. The new ones have hard rubber??

What happens after you wear through the 1/16" of siping? Can you get them re-cut?

No, there is more siping built into the tire that opens up as they wear down...

Don't take that the wrong way... They are soft like dog shit... Just a different kind of soft.. The W965's almost feel like a soft gooy plastic because of the technology in the rubber... Which wears out about 60% into the life of the tire...

These tires dont have that Nanyte tecxhnology or whatever you call it... The 965'srubber litterally soaks up water.. no joke... The a chunk of tread block is like a sponge on those tires...

These new ones don't have the same feel... But are quite soft still.. Not as soft as the Blizzak DM-V2 rubber or the WS80... But this is a truck tires... Its a bit tougher built so you can still spin and have fun without chunks of your tire tread flying off..

It is pretty impressive what a dedicated snow/ice tire is capable of. Have you noticed any performance difference new vs. old?

The only difference I notice is the they ride a lot smoother and nicer than the older version... Mind you, I've never has a set of 965's on this truck, so my comparison isn't to accurate..

No, this is why they changed the compound of rubber... It makes them last longer..

But I won't know that for a fact for quite some time yet!

I paid $1000 With the rebate because I'm Canadian we get dicked on anything auto...

As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the best snow tires for a truck... So it didn't really hurt my feelings.. This time..

I'm going to say I might have a bit better capabilities in deep snow and slush at speed...

But that tire is probably better on hard packed snow and ice at speed...

That tires is special like the W965 with its sponge rubber.. Bridgestone claims the rubber soaks up the water between the tread block and ice its riding one reducing slip.... Along with sipes..

It only lasts for the first 5-6/32's though... :-/
