I got my dude Harley 6 years ago when I moved into a place and the roommate before me left him behind...she never changed his litter box and the other roommates would have to feed him because she was never home. I started taking care of him when I moved in and we became best friends instantly...I ran into her a few months later and she told me she would pick him up and take him back to the shelter she got him from, I kindly told her to F off (in my head)...I told her I'd keep him. We've been best buds ever since, he's the coolest cat I've ever known

Why wouldn't they have taken him with them? New apartment doesn't allow cats? Find a different apartment.

Honestly in my case, I think the girl that left him behind was young, dumb and immature and "just wanted a kitten"...from what the other roommates told me, when he was small she was all over him but a year later when he was grown she didn't pay attention to him anymore.

She's just one of those people that shouldn't be allowed to have an animal

Oh man, she kept his litter box in the downstairs bathroom and when I moved in, it was so wretched in there from never being cleaned it would make your eyes water

fast forward a few years and our cat lady collection is complete...my dude Harley is in the window, my wife's two cats (Mojito and Mai Tai) are in the foreground

Mojito requires an insulin shot every morning for his diabetes and Mai Tai was rescued from a parking lot covered in motor oil when he was a kitten (the gray and white one). He has seizures from time to time but not frequent enough to be on medication yet, according to the vet. He's a cool cat but still has some feral instincts...I've lived with him for 2 years and this photo is about as close as he'll let me get to him, unless I'm eating ice cream. Then he's all over me. My wife is the only person he trusts implicitly

Our cat George is kind of like that. Will probably always be a bit feral. Super skittish, and even though he purrs when you pick him up, he purrs and cries to be put down lol...he's very cat. He does a little meercat stand up whenever he hears someone coming to the door and then low crawls to a hidy place. Poor kiddo.

yeah, usually cats that are born and grow up on the streets for any substantial length of time will develop a feral instinct that never completely goes away. My cat Harley came from a shelter as a kitten but I believe he must have been born there - he's extremely social like a dog and will run up to anyone, stranger or not..even groups of people he'll always be in the center of the room looking for attention. My wife's cat Mai Tai will bury himself under the bed covers or under the bed itself for hours if there's a stranger in the house, lol

I know it's kind of mean but I love to startle him because he's so jumpy - he'll pop straight up into the air 3ft or more if you shuffle your feet when he walks by. Then he'll look at you like "WTF DUDE", haha.

We brought home a rock from the ocean a few month back to use as a door stopper in our room (wife loves ocean things)...for weeks, Mai Tai was afraid to walk past it, and would randomly pop up in the air if he sensed it was going to attack him or something. That's how skittish he is and terrified of things that aren't normal, lol

Thanks. My wife says I should patent it.

Once I set it up and walked out of the room, the kitten immediately ran in and tried to pounce on the lower branches...as she had several times already. The vacuum came on and she hesitated...as if to think WTF. Then darted.

Our older cat made an attempt to get near the tree and got the same surprise. One of them set it off later that night (we were in bed). That was Friday. It's now Tuesday and it's not gone off since then. Fast learners.

Ultimately it's better is way. The wife doesn't need to stress over some of her collectible ornaments being damaged, no danger of chewing on cords and wires, no constant yelling, etc. Everyone is at peace.

When I was active duty this gal needed help moving and she had a tom cat, and the whole house smelled like cat urine. The couch especially... after we moved her stuff she asked if she could cook us something to eat...we all politely passed. Sad thing was she was an attractive young gal. Just unbelievable that she would live like that...she later got kicked out of the Air Force...for disciplinary actions;)

I know that cat pee/house smell all too well, unfortunately :annoyed: My wife's cat (the one with diabetes) started peeing in every corner of the house and under every window when we moved into our current home...it was an absolute nightmare. He finally let up after several months but lately has started up again, for no reason that we can surmise other than he grew up in one place his whole life and the sudden change after 7 years triggered it.

Getting cat pee smell out of things is no fun. He's even peed in my gym back a few times

One of our cats throws up randomly. We think it's triggered by stress. He's been good for the last couple months (knock on wood) hopefully he stays a cool calm and collected cat :).
