    Hey,

So I may be in the market for a new Taco, having nearly totalled my 2017. Here's a question:

Family plan is to outfit the new Taco with a camper - for example Habitat or Go Fast.

There would eventually be a winch/low profile bumper on front end a hefty swing away tire/gas can/ kitchen swing-away rear bumper.

Hypothetically, if I was to get a TRD Pro, would I end up likely re-doing the entire suspension to handle the extra weight?

I had an OME Dakar kit on an Xterra. Best $1200 I ever spent on that truck - overnight went from a squeaky, tired 90,000 km affair to a more well-mannered automobile than when I first rode it off the lot 7 years earlier.

Can I put heftier springs on a TRD Pro suspension and achieve similar results?

Or should I forego the TRD Pro and put the $10,000 premium towards the camper and a heavy duty OME kit for a TRD Sport?

BTW, I'm not all that serious about the TRD Pro, but honestly wondering if the Pro suspension on its own gets me a fair deal closer to the camper truck I'm eventually aiming for...

I love the pros but save your money here and just get a sport or off road.

Should be able to build the suspension you want for a lot less. Look at dobbinsons, terraflex, ome, new bilstien. Even after the simple mods like upgraded lighting, bumper, maybe some speaker upgrades.. I still think you would be under 5k and still have 5k of the premium for ur camper u want.

So I just bought a 2019 Voodoo Blue Tacoma TRD PRO a few months ago and let me tell ya man the only reason at all it would be worth getting is the trim options. If I had been smarter I would have gotten a off road. Reason 1. If you get the pro with the fox suspension and you want to put a suspension lift you need to get one equal to or better than the fox. That will cost anywhere from $3300-5000. I'm an average guy making an average salary, that's a bit pricey for me. If I got the Off road I could easily have put a decent suspension lift for alot cheaper. 2. This damn Desert Air Intake!!!! Its horrible man.. I'm already replacing it with a Safari ARB and its costing me a fortune. I cant fit any roof accessories on my truck cause of the thing. 3. I went to Toyota yesterday and I asked them about a lift package just like I mentioned above it would be incredibly expensive but the problem is they said I can't lift it because if I do then it affects my Toyota safety sense and there's no way to recalibrate it which I don't know if that's true or not but I'm sure there's a way.. Yet it's just another headache that has been thrown my way. Now with all the bad stuff out of the way I can say that I absolutely 100% love my Tacoma the pro is an amazing truck I love my leather seats, I love my trim options, I love everything about it but in hindsight the true better choice would be getting an off-road and if you want to make it look like the pro putting the grill in etc etc wouldnt be hard. I hope this helps and I know it's a little off topic but I'm currently dealing with a lot of these problems I'll post a list of upgrades that I am waiting on in the mail or have done myself as well as a link to a forum page of my build so if you have any ideas that I may be doing or you know something I don't you can feel free to talk to me about it cause still learning myself.

Pro suspension isn't intended to support extra weight - less in fact. It's still tuned for a stock weight Tacoma so...if you're going to add a bunch of weight and want the suspension optimally set up for it you'll need to replace stuff with either an OR or Pro. Only swapping springs and leaving dampers is an option but it is not optimal. Ideally the damper is tuned with the spring at the forefront of considerations.

Doesn’t make a lot of sense to start changing the suspension on a Pro because it would no longer be a Pro. Makes more sense to take the extra 7k and outfit an off-road in the end it’ll be a better vehicle.

Yeah but you can sell the pro parts for way more than the off-road. And it’s resale value will stay 7k higher. Upgraded a pro makes the most financial sense, trucks aren’t investments. But pro owners lose less when upgrading components.

My advice would be to get a tundra if you're going to tow or add extra weight.

Definitely get the off-road. I'm swapping my Fox Shocks with beefy Kings because of weight and feel like a fool.

Really? Like badges, wheels, grille, headlights, seat covers, floor mats, shifter knob and hood scoop all readily available as bolt on’s in the aftermarket. It’s a TRD OR with preminium and tech package with some cosmetic and suspension upgrades...

Yeah and thats what makes it a trd pro. All the small little upgrades. You did forget taillights, headlights, rigid fogs, homelink, trd exhaust, skid plate etc.

I have the same question. On the market for a Pro, but definitely going to be doing some upgrades that will add weight.

Is there a source for the TOYOTA grille? I absolutely cannot stand the current Toyota logo on the grilles of the other models.

    Edit: Nevermind - found it.

Don't want to de-rail this too much, but I am in the same situation. I am really looking forward to the Pro I am picking up next week, but that desert air intake has got to go. Did you happen to ask Toyota what it would cost to revert it back to stock? This is what my dealer (my salesman) just got done telling me:

"It’s look liking it’s going to be pretty pricey. Because it looks like it’s built into the fender we would have to replace the entire fender above the wheel well in order to completely remove the intake. We would have to outsource the body work for painting and installing the fender and before even getting those costs, just parts is over $1,100. That doesn’t include painting or body installation. Even this is all estimates before they get a chance to look at it since we haven’t seen it yet."

Upgrading to a better front coilover isnt much more money. Sell the fox and get kings or icon with 650lb or 700lb springs for a bit more money

So I just got back from toyota... I had to pay $333 for the new fender and $650 for them to paint it, take my old fender off put the new one on and install the Safari arb. I could do this all myself minus the painting but I have ankle surgery next week and will be out of commission for awhile. I'm pretty upset about it but i ordered a prinsu cabrac and needed the DAI off my truck. So long story short roughly $1000 to take it off and or put a new snorkel that wont interfere with the roof on.
