Oklahoma has offered it for a few years now. Got it put on mine a couple years ago when I had to renew.

Several places offer veterans discounts, maybe a police officer cuts you break if you get pulled over. That sort of thing.

Not sure what else it is good for, but it didn’t cost anything to add so why not?

Home depot still wont honor the discount

Lowe’s does and makes it really easy. You get a MyLowe’s card that tracks all your purchases (makes returns and warranties really easy) and go online and register as a vet. When you scan the card at the register, the discount is automatically applied.

I dislike vet discounts and think as a vet you should be held to a higher standard and not given a break if pulled over. Just my useless 2¢ opinion though.

Then don’t get your vet status on your license.

So you dont have to toe around your DD214 for proof of service. Ive never heard of it getting you out of a ticket, and it surely hasn't worked for me!

And just to be clear, I agree with you for the most part. I will never go out of my way to ask for a discount, nor do I think I have done anything to deserve it. The only one I really use is Lowe’s, because they make it so easy. I also haven’t been pulled over in years, because I drive like an old man.

    Fuck it,
If they’re offering a discount, I’m going to take it. I’ll never ask but places like Lowe’s broadcast that shit like it was the super bowl. If it saves me what I pay in sales tax, it’s a moot point. That’s how I rationalize it.

I don't like anything that tracks me as a veteran. Licenses and license plates are not good for opsec. That's why DOD went away from big stickers for your POV. My retired ID & DD214 is enough for me. Plus DFAS knows just show me the money.

I have not had a problem at HD.

You can also just go to the Customer Service counter and register. I just showed them my 'Service Connected' VA ID card. No need to go online then.
I then just give them my home (NOT MY CELL) number and it discounts every time.

Had one person question it and I asked her, what type of ID I needed, she said a government issued ID, I looked at her and said this is a government issued ID that shows I was in the Air Force and another check out lady told her i was correct, got my discount. Other than that one time, never had a problem

I was told one time at HD that the discount is technically only one one day a week, but the checkers give it every day. That was in Asheville, NC.
I get it every time, every day.

I just go to Lowes now.
Home depot puts it in the store managers hands, that's why it fluctuates, apparently the one where I live got a new manager and hes not patriotic.
Ohh well, guess I'll shop at Lowes. It stacks on top of a sale to as long as they dont have to manually put it in.

Home Depot corporate policy says the 10% is given 365 to active duty and vets with a service connected disability (must have the va card that states it). All veterans get it in select days ( Veterans Day, 4th of July and Memorial Day IIRC)

Good to know. I have it written on my VA ID card. "Service Connected".

Just tell the cashier that you have a veterans card show it to them to verify and it’s 10% off all full price items. Can’t stack it on sales prices sadly
