I went for the pitmaster IQ110. Worked great until the probe died. Didn’t want to spend $30 for another probe. So it’s been sitting in my garage for the last 6 months

I don't think you can go wrong adding a pooper to the line up. As long as you have the space for it. Kind of like saying you have too many tools. Said no man, ever!

When I bought mine used it came with the IQ110 and it works great. I cant imagine smoking without it now that I've used it.

So tried out the Kamado Jr today .Was going reverse sear a tri tip roast .Had about 10 kingsford coals (because read up that it runs hot) and a piece of kiawe wood. Gauge said was about 200 . So 45 min latter decided to check temp with my thermoworks smoke and damn .Registered 340 cooking temp and 144 on roast .Double checked with thermapen and was the same .
Foiled let rest and sure enough was done . Surprised how little coal I used .Didn't have color I wanted but was good .No time to sear lol.
Ordered the smoking stone for heat deflection. Think I going have some fun with this once I fiqure out how to play with temps. Knew cooker thermometer would be off but not that way off.
    Briskets tomorrow.

Got a bit apprehensive about the cooler thaw method, being that we are now well into Thursday.
Took it out and put it in the fridge (as we have eaten most of the food my wife had in there, so there was room now) and found the breast was thawed. I put it in breast down, so that makes sense as the ice was atop the bird. Temp was around 37 degrees so I am pretty sure I don't have any food safety concerns here. Hope to brine it tomorrow, and cook Saturday. Or, maybe I will just roast it as comes out of the package, as it already has a saline solution injected- keep this first one simple.

Definitely going the Alton Brown way, to get a good brown on the skin (and cut down the cook time).

I used to eat a lot of fast food and frozen foods and I can't say that I miss it. I have found that I enjoy cooking and that if you don't buy prepackaged stuff it's saves money. Good luck with the youngster.

 But no wifi antenna? Hold your phone next to the controller. Search for a wifi signal. It's there, then all you need is an antenna.

I have the same one. Bought it on Prime days and got like $20 off. It’s great have nothing to complain about with it. Only other thing I could ask for is WiFi to check while out of the house but that’s more money. :)
