Just purchased a 2019 Tacoma Sport, Cavalry Blue. Love the truck. Rained today, while cleaning, I noticed their appears to be a rough finish along the bottom lower sides (both sides).
Is this typical? Almost looks like poor metal prep/prime prior to paint.

Rock chip protection. Its supposed to be like that if this is the area you are talking about.

I thought it was due to the automatic transmission looking for gears? On the manual transmission reverse being to tall? Or the fact that you have to drive this sports car —oops, I mean truck— with ECT on? Or the shutter and sputter at what speed? Oh, yea, all speeds! Or maybe it’s from the blurry side view mirrors?

Or, is it from the paint they used from the dump reacting to the recycled Coors cans they used to make these “quality” trucks?

    Sell it NOW!

I have thought about this for the winter to protect from sand spray. Is there any risk to the paint to Plasti Dip the rockers?

I would use 80 grit sandpaper and just sand it off

depends on a few things, how long it's been there, how thick it is, whether it's gone crusty, etc. peel if you can and apply thick enough to do that. but if it gets too old and funky you may have to crumble it off.

That depends on how many coats you put on. My experience anything over 5 coats come off easy, less coats come off in smaller pieces.
