It seems that the Ford Ecoboosts have the most trouble with turbos compared to other manufacturers I've noticed. Anyone else observe differently?

I highly enjoy people who complain about MPGs as a reason for getting rid of vehicles. Hey, maybe if you didn't drive 90 MPH, your MPGs maybe, just maybe, might not suck so much. Your fuel gauge is directly related to your speedo, who woulda thunk, eh?

But that's like logical n shit. And people love to drive 90 mph. Then act like they drive like a grandma when they say their MPGs suck. No, you drive like it's the autoban. Trust me, I drive 65 and EVERYONE flys past me. I always have nice open road in front of me. :notsure: And my MPGs don't suck.

And buy you a diesel. And all the $150 oil changes it comes with. Really saving that gas $....yeahhhh, rrrriiigggghhhttt. Lolzzzzz. zzzzz. zzzzz. :rofl:More logic, but we'll ignore it, cause diesel fap!!!!!

I think all of them would fulfill your needs. It would probably just come down to preference and deal. I will play devil's advocate a bit and say that I was very happy with my 14 Ram. Had no issues with it and loved the Hemi...averaged ~ 20 mpg with it. I pull down a whopping 17 in my Tacoma :frusty:

Fuel economy is dictated by more than how you push the pedal. Don’t know what the OP’s day to day truck use is but that would dictate what replacement truck I got. I sold a Dodge 2500 with Cummins for the Tacoma because my truck needs changed. When I tow I wish I still had the Dodge because my Tacoma has a hole in the gas tank any time I tow with it. If I towed every day the Tacoma would be gone and fuel economy would be a huge part of that decision. Since I tow a half dozen times a year (ignoring small Home Depot type runs) the Tacoma will do and I will suffer for those few times a year. Not going to buy another big truck and wish I had the Tacoma for the 359 days a year I am not towing.

Gas price today was $2.14/gallon. Diesel $3.11 AKA 30% more... Oil change for gas? $35 for mobil 1 and filter... Oil Change for diesel? $85 oil and filter... DEF fluid? Fuel filters? I really love the "I'm going diesel to save money" logic! Now lets start rebuilding the front end of the diesel every 75k miles. Repairs? Yes the taco burns gas... Yes the tundra burns more gas... It almost makes me think that they are trucks. I guess you could frame off restore an el camino, find a diesel rabbit pick-up and restore it, or just get a Prius. Come to think of it a bicycle burns no gas at all! I log all expenses of my vehicles for the company. Gas is the cheapest thing I buy compared to repairs. The extra cost of the Toyota comes back at the end of your ownership. The re-sale of my Toyotas compared to a F-150 will pay back the fuel alone.

I wouldn't buy a diesel unless you really need to tow something huge. Maintenance pain and cost. I hear it from all of my diesel friends. If I had a big trailer, I'd downsize just so I could drive a gas truck. That said, I'd get a newer f150 v8, silverado or tundra. I've driven all 3 and they're all good. I liked the DCSB silverado. I almost got a used 2017 silverado instead of my new tacoma sr. Such a smooth driving truck with a limo back seat. 5.3L is strong and proven. Add a leveling kit and AT tires and you're good to go.

OP, I am curious why you only get 12mpg. I'd invest in a Scangauge or Ultragauge to help your driving habits. I added 1-1.5MPG and mine is almost all city.

The new one hauls ass and the base model has exactly what id want... 2 door 2wd V8... But is it reliable like my tacoma? (I'm keeping the taco)

So far so good with the one example I have to draw from. Think he's got 70k so far

Sounds good. Not many have sold of the one and reviews that actually are legit are hard to find. (All the trucktrends and such only seem to review infotainment and never if its reliable and run right)

If you do a lot of city and stop-and-go driving a modern diesel would be a completely terrible choice. That regeneration cycle has to happen sometime. A gas truck would be a much better option and save you $10,000 up front in addition to maintenance being simpler and cheaper. You also would shave about 1000 lbs off your truck weight by sticking with a gas motor and have a front axle that lasts a lot longer between maintenance intervals. Unless you need to tow a 20k lb fifth wheel don't get a big diesel.

Yeah, it's not really that simple. This is illegal (violation of the Clean Air Act and possibly state laws depending on where you live) and people do get fined for doing this (along with the shops that do this type of work and companies that design such equipment). It doesn't help that a lot of big-brained diesel owners roll coal on cops, politicians, and random strangers and then are dumb enough to record their crimes and upload it onto the Internet. Did you know that the EPA actively prosecutes such cases and puts up the results online for the whole world to see? Not only do you get fined for doing stuff like this but you get the joy of reinstalling all of the stuff that you threw in the dumpster to drive your truck again.

    Ok?

I didn't use the word "tow" anywhere in my original post. Not quite sure what this is trying to get at. I'll still stand by original comment. Lead foots lead to light wallets.

And that diesel stuff...leads to an even lighter wallet.
