I have noticed people vinyl wrapping there roofs prior to installing the prinsu rack. Heard it’s due to pevenaion of rust, but also due to the fact that it’s difficult to clean your roof because of the crossbars. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I recently got a Prinsu rack for my DCLB. I saw largely positive reviews and the feedback from Tacoma World got me more excited for these than the Front Runner rack I was looking at (flash sale and $300+ price difference didn't hurt).

I recently had an issue with thieves getting into my camper shell and have started thinking of security issues with the rack. I don't store anything on the top long term, but I'd like to leave some up like an awning. If I had my MaxTrax or other accessories mounted in the T slots, all it would take to get the T-slot bars off is a torque/star drill bit on the ends where the bars secure to the frame. Anyone have any ideas on further security for the rack? I've been looking at these BOLT padlocks that key to the Toyota key, same key would be a lot less headache. I guess you could lock things to the frame with a cable as well, that would at least need a pretty heavy wrench/socket as well.

This is one area I didn't think about when getting the Prinsu rack that wouldn't have been as big of an issue with the Front Runner rack where the bars are secured better to the frame.

Could anyone snap a picture of a tape measure at the front, middle, and rear to show the height of the side plate off the roofline, the height of the side plate it self, and the extrusion in relation to both. Essentially a picture of a vertical tape measure that his resting on the roof next to the side plate? Trying to see if a light bar would fit under the extrusion bars, facing the sides over the doors, without contacting the roof. I know theres a couple inches there but not sure how much room there really is.

    Thanks!

you cant measure it on your truck? i cant do it right now coz im at work, but my guess is that it wouldnt fit.. its a very slim gap from the bottom of the rack to the cab..

@batong_23 I don't have one yet, and am looking at buying one or making one with a little taller side plates if need be. I ended up with about 5 single row light bars for free and am looking for creative ways to use them.

I realize the actual gab between the bottom of the side plate and the roof line is like 3/4 inch, but i am curious then how far up is the extrusion bar from there. I could notch the side plate to allow more light to come through if it fit.

Here is my 5 minute shovel holder. I Used an old Yakima rack wheel tray and bolted to side of Prinsu using original Yakima hardware and two 1/2" plastic spacers from hardware store. Called it a successful day, Total time not counting time to drive to hardware store was less than 5 minutes.

    IMG_1660.jpg

Thought I could so better and also wanted an axe mount so came up with the 1 hour solution.

I used a standard chop saw with 80 tooth blade to cut the aluminum Yakima tray down to a length to span 3 bars and saved cut off section for axe holder. Use hand file to clean up saw marks and round over the corners. Drilled 5/16 holes to line up with slots on the Prinsu and used 1/4" button head bolts and T-Nuts to mount to the slots. Then went on EBay to buy extra pair of wheel straps for the axe and get more of the Yakima plastic spacer piece (no longer sold new so search EBay) that slides onto the strap to extend downwards into the tray since shovel handle does not reach above top of tray. Recommend you use the older style over center wheel straps (dare I say EBay again?) as I find the newer, all plastic, ratcheting straps jam up if you over tighten them. Best part, no holes drilled into Prinsu so I can quickly move these around depending on what else I carry.

Quick search but couldn't find anything yet, so asking here: Does anyone know the width from edge to edge?

On the cabrac or caprac? From what I have found on the cabrac, the extrusion bars are 47-inches and the side plates are 3/16" each so... ~ 47 3/8"

Has anyone run the toprac with cross bars? I have a Thule crossbars on my snug top and want the basket/storage option available.

Edit: I want the toprac on the the rails and the cross bars on the rails.

Can anyone give me dimensions of the Prinsu wind deflector. Just the height of it, and dimensions to the bolt holes. Much appreciated thank you!

I feel the easiest method would be to buy the rubber pieces that slide into the extrusion slots and then put one on the front crossbar, one in the middle, and then one in the back. Throw 2 NRS straps over it and call it good.

    Similar to these;

I did not see an option to purchase but it would give you an idea about whats out there as far as rubber pads go.

Question about the prinsu - what's the difference between one with the light bar cutout and without it? I don't think I want a light bar in the future but if I do it would be nice to have the option. If I didn't have a light bar in the cutout version does it just look like there is a gaping hole? Is there a removable metal piece you could slot in and out? Thanks
