Does anyone with an X2/X4 think you can convert the nuts to ones with thumb wheels for easier/faster removal for 100% bed use? Or does it require it to be so tight that a ratchet is the only recommended way to tighten it?

You probably could use wing nuts, but not 100% certain. I cannot remember how much room there was when I installed it, and it's too cold to go lay in the bed and look. I personally would not want to take it off all the time. There is a certain amount of play in mounting, to allow you to precisely fit the cover fore and aft and side to side as I recall. You would have to fiddle with it every time to remount it I think. Having said that, I am not sure if other covers are any better for quick removal and install.

Sounds good. That's what I figured. A Revolver X2/X4 would give me better ease of putting mountain bikes in the bed but still easy enough to remove for larger items or helping people move. I've been looking at a Leer X2T as well, it is tri-fold but extremely easy to completely remove from the truck. Tough choice since both seem like great covers.

Anyone seen the different matte finish on the X4? Hard to tell in pictures.

Another data point for the Bak Revolver X2. Today was sunny but cold. I rolled open the cover for a few hours to dry out the bed (had snowblower in it on the weekend). When I tried to roll the cover closed I found it was essentially "frozen" in the rolled up position. It was very hard to unroll, and in fact I could not flatten it enough to close it. I have left it as flat as I can to hopefully warm up, and lay flat.

Might not be the best cover if you live in a cold winter climate. A trifold cover would have less moving parts and hinges to freeze up.

Good to know. Thanks for your candor. May be leaning toward a hard trifold.

Man.... i'm having a tough time deciding which cover to get.

I think I value security over convenience because i dont want to run a MTB rack....decisions decisions !

Take a look at the Leer X2T from a security perspective. Their latching mechanism is a level better security compared to the wire release cable that the Bak products have. It is a tri fold instead of a roll up though.

Recently purchased a revolver X4 and have major leaking along side rails. Has anyone else experienced this? I originally took pictures and contacted Bak, was informed the leaking was not normal (new seals and hardware sent to me) reinstalled same issue. Bak has now informed me all covers will leak on the Tacoma along the side bed rails due to design. True? Not true? Advice?

I personally haven't seen any leakage from the side rails...but then I am in CO, and we are allergic to naturally occurring moisture from the planet. When I wash the truck though, I have only seen it from the end (where there is/was a huge gap) and they gave you the 1/8" pad to put on the end rail where there is at least a 1/2" gap. I haven't washed mine since I ran silicone to alleviate that issue, so I cannot report if further leaks have been detected. I know the rail has some contours in it, but the seal also acts like it conforms to those contours pretty good.

I just noticed I think I can push the side rails up further...must've done that when I silicone the gap.

I've had a bakflip revolver X2 for two years now and was wondering if anyone had any luck installing some type of bed rack with the revolver? I want to set up a roof top tent without removing the tonneau all together. Any suggestions?

Would be interested in this too. Currently running the CBI overland rack, not sure if there is enough clearance to mount the revolver rails.

I called the Miami based company that made the 4x4 bed racks and KB Voodoo and both stated that the bed rack will not work with the X2 tonneau unless you are willing to cut into your $800 X2 then its a no go.

I had the same issue with the X2, and ended up returning it.

1992SR5V6 I have hauled dirtbikes in the back of my truck with the X2 but I typically trailer them.

My brother in law has this on a non-Tacoma and he says it does freeze up sometimes when it’s cold. Don’t know about the security issue though.

Here is my input... got my x2 in july and immediately broke one of the clips that holds the cover when rolled up.. contacted them and they sent me replacements for both sides .. awesome... then the leaking started .. both rails leak a decent amount .. nothing to soak whats under the cover but more than i thought should be coming in... contacted them again with the first pic showing how the seal was separating from the cover in one spot and other pics showing how it leaks on the whole rail... to end my story i just got a full replacement cover today ... took about 2 weeks of waiting but they came through

One of our truck supply business quit handling BAK products. He said it all started with the X2 Revolver. People were coming back with complaints such as the issue with the seal like the above post and various other issues. There are a couple more places around here you could get a BAK installed though. I have been eyeing the TruXedo Sentry cover. Pretty close the same price as the BAK. Not as secure though.

Bak is part of Truck Hero. Their brands include Advantage, A.R.E, Bak, Extang, Retrax, Rugged Liner, Truxedo and Undercover. I don't know if they all come out of the same manufacturing facility though. I guess they try to cover most ends of the market, with all their brands.

They also own Bedrug, N-Fab, and Husky Liners.
