Has anybody trimmed the sides of their factory airbag to fit switches?

Thanks OP for the write up! 2008 Tacoma without steering controls to a 2012 Tacoma with controls. My 2008 already had the prewired harness behind the head unit. Plugged into a Pioneer 2800 with the Axxiss plug in that automatically programmed buttons.

Many thanks adio - awesome write up! My 09 Standard Cab did not come with the three wires (first photo above). Has anyone tried running them? Am I right to assume they originate from the black connector on the stationary side of the clock spring (second photo above)? My connector only has the green with red strip wire.

I found this thread on ToyotaNation that describes how to run the wires.

Where did you find this wire originally? If not installed does anyone know the part number?

In my 09 Standard Cab this connector is a 20 pin that plugs into the non-JBL stock stereo. I am guessing that your RCLB will have the three steering wheel control wires.

What wire? There are 3 wires I believe for the steering wheel controls and if your harness does not have them, you need to add them yourself and run them to the head unit. Mine was pre-wired and might have been one of the easiest and most satisfying mods ever.

This is what I found behind the 2013 headunit.

Compare yours with adio's first photo (first entry on page one of this thread) that shows the three wires you need. You don't have them. Check out this link that describes how to add the steering wheel control wires.

Out of curiosity, do you have a working backup camera display in your head unit?

So I bought a switch for my bluetooth side.
Was it supposed to come with the wire or is it already prewired in the steering wheel?

    A thing or two...
The cable that jumps between the two sides is a separate piece with its own p/n in the original post, so you need to purchase it separate.

    My shit is all stock.
    That should be entertaining.
A coworker ordered one of those bag covers. (Was my idea actually) Had it shipped to our workplace. We actually received a visit from homeland security. Not even kidding. Counterfeit product they said. Boy, were we in trouble with our boss!
